8-month old's weird BFing behavior!

He's been writhing and squirming a lot at he breast - especially when we are lying down for naps or nursing. he sticks his bum up in the air, gets into "down dog" (yoga) position with his head turned sideways and latches on, off, on, off. Tries to crawl while nursing, crawls away then gets mad that the nipple is no longer in his mouth, lunges back onto the breast, nurses making smacking sounds, kicks his feet. butt goes back into the air, etc. Panting, grunting, jumping on hands and knees. Gets more and more intense as we nurse, and happens when he is tired OR during the day when he isn't. Its kind of funny and kind of driving me CRAZY and making my nipples hurt and making bedtimes and naptimes really long and difficult! Anyone have similar issues? What's it about?

My son acts like that sometimes. I think its when it is taking my milk a bit to let down and he just wants to move.
I find bedroom nursing with the lights off the best way to get him to nurse properly, lol

I think it's the age. DD was so busy that lying quietly while nursing was just no longer an option. She's actually fallen asleep standing on the pillow over my head while nursing before... nursing a toddler is a wild ride!

I agree that it is the age. All of my kiddos have done it as well. I call it acrobatic nursing. I'm sure you could try and correct there behavior by taking it away if they do it then offer in a minute or so. But it hasn't bugged me enough to try it. My nipples are so numb from yrs of nursing it doesn't faze them.

My 4 m/o DS2 does exactly that! I find he does it when he's overtired. I take the boobs away and wait a few minutes before letting him bf again. Sometimes we have to repeat the process a few times, and eventually he'll latch on and fall asleep. I find it incredibly frustrating, but it must be even worse for the poor little guy. DS1 never did this, he would just latch and stay latched no matter what!
