Hi there. I'm 39 weeks , and at my appt today my mw was concerned about my itchy skin, ( at night ) I have a slight rash on my legs too.
She mentioned something to do w/ a gallbladder, and running tests.
I have looked on line, but cannot find anything about it.

Has anyone heard of this at all?

I think it's more of a liver issue than gallbladder.

Charmie, I actually thought of you when I posted this, hoping that you would see it, but thought that you'd be super busy w/ your babe.
But thanks for the prompt reply. It seems kind of alarming actually.
I do have some of the other symptoms too, like fatigue and dark urine, but hey, those symptoms could also be just coincidence.
My dh and my dd1 also are itchy too. We have just moved into a new house, so new water, and new detergent for our washing machine, so it could be that. The itching is not always at night.

I am almost thinking that if they were super worried, they would have told me to come back for the test tomorrow right?
And then the results take at the least 1 week to come back. 3 at the most.

Maybe I will call them in the morning.

Thanks so much.

Cholestasis doesn't include a rash, and usually involves itching on your hands and feet. Luckily, you're nice and close to your due date. If liver function tests show problems they'd want to induce. (usually this involves early induction at 36 weeks or so)

the thing that I am worried about is the fact that they said it was a big deal, but wanted me to wait for my next appt next week to do a blood test.
If it was such a big deal, then wouldn't they have wanted me to do it straight away?

The stillbirth and hemoragging obviously scare me too. I was thinking about it all night.

I am guessing that this is a pregnancy induced condition?

intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (so you have something to google!) is a pregnancy induced condition that clears up after having your baby. If you're concerned (and if the description fits -- intense itching, especially on the palms of your hands and the soles of your feet, no rash) then by all means call and ask for the tests to be done sooner. The two people I've know who had it had their babies at 36 weeks or so, fwiw.
