Some of my recent projects

I need to share. I'm still a bit too sick to sew and I miss it! I've been teaching myself how to sew for years now (not to imply like that I'm good-- I meant more like, it's been slow and tiny steps along the way, lol). My mom is a big sewer and taught me some, but we didn't really carry it through...

So the past several weeks I decided to really get into it and try sewing DD some clothes. Of course I can't be sensible and buy a decent pattern, I've just been mocking up my own from DD's clothes...

She loves long skirts so that's why they're oddly proportioned. I'm also making due with the clothes I'm cutting up to use as fabric Some of my old Ts and things with holes in odd places and the like.

Pink and blue dress, frilly for my girly-girl. I think I need to learn how to make more pink ruffly clothes! Good thing I started reading Ruffles and Stuff.

Sewing with knits for the first time has been an adventure! The best part is, I can feel myself chugging along that learning curve. Now I'm going to make her a superman shirt with a ruffle and a cape! I've also found awesome simple patterns for regular real clothes on some craft blogs. Between those and repurposing thrift store finds, I think we can outfit this kid's next growth spurt with very cheap and unique clothes

Anyone have good pattern recs or other tips and tricks to share?

I have no tips nor tricks for you, for I haven't sewn many clothes. But you're inspiring me. Would please you post the craft blogs with the simple patterns?

The craft blog that stood out the most for patterns was Lil Boo Blue, http://lilblueboo.blogspot.com/, she's got affordable patterns in her Etsy shop. I think I'm going to try the leggings pattern first. There was also another out there somewhere with a simple shirt/dress pattern but I'm not sure where, one of the many, many blogs I've been adding to my google reader the last few weeks

It's remade from two big (teen or tweens?) tees from the thrift shop. DH really loves Superman so I bought that tee even though it's like our first "branded" clothing item. I am so proud of it! It's the first time something came out JUST as I was picturing it, without any major screw ups along the way (okay, the cape was too small to tack onto the right part of the shoulders so the neckline sags a touch, but it's fine). $2 total!

Awww, that is SO CUTE!!! You did an amazing job! I'm very new to sewing so I'm always *stalking* this forum for ideas and tips.

Thanks I feel like after years of slowing doing little projects every once in a great while, I'm finally pulling it all together. I'm still a total beginner sewer but now I really can feel the learning curve
