can you freeze yogert?

I know freezing cottage cheese & sour cream are a disaster, but what about yogert?

Trying to stock up before #2 arrives - DSs yogert I can only find at whole foods & the closest one is 40min away

I just had a thought - freezing probably destroys the live active cultures.....

I don't know what it does to the cultures, but it tastes fine when it's been frozen, my dd eats it that way as a treat sometimes!

I would think you would have to eat it frozen. I don't think you can defrost it back to a creamy yogurt form. I think it would be watery and seperate.

I do, but the above poster is right: it can separate and get a bit watery.

That's funny, I just wondered this same question last night. The Stonyfield Farm's organic cream top yogurt is on sale at my local grocery store this week for 69 cents, regularly 99 cents, and I was thinking it would be so nice to stock up!

I used to make popsicles out of yogurt for my kids and they loved them.

How would you do that? Did you use dixie cups or something like that? Add anything to the yogurt?

I frozen it, and it does tend to get a bit watery. but if you give it a good stir, it gets pretty back to normal.

we like it as long as it doesnt thaw.

So it sounds like it wouldn't work too well to just take the cups of cream-top yogurt w/ fruit on the bottom and throw them in the freezer, as they would freeze in layers. Bummer

We have some of those popsicle molds from tupperware (totally not BPA-Free ) and I'll pour kefir and chunks of fruit into them and freeze for popsicles. I know there's some non-plastic molds out there but they're rather pricey and you don't get many of them. We've thawed frozen yogurt before as well and I usually pour off a little bit of the top liquid, stir up the rest, and it's usually not a problem. If worse comes to worse, give a thawed yogurt a good shake-up before opening it.
