Diet prior to glucose tolerance test?

I'm going for this test next week. I know there are certain things one can eat to improve one's numbers. So my questions are:

1. What should I be eating?
2. How far in advance should I be eating these things? (hours, days, weeks http://www.gentlechristianmothers.co...ies/awink2.gif)

Thanks

(No debates on the merits please. I meet a number of the risk factors and am working to convince my doc to let me do a big flight late in pregnancy. Its a hoop I'm more then willing to jump thru.)

Here's what I did (I also have several risk factors and wanted to pass this test. I had a false positive with my last DD.)

1. Cut out all refined sugar (cookies, sweets, etc) for a week before the test (which is something I should be doing anyway).

2. Eat high protein and low carb 24 hrs before the test. I had lots of veggies, salad, chicken, eggs, etc. No bread, yogurt, or milk the day of the test. This did cause me to throw a few keytones in my urine, but not enough to alarm my MW.

3. Drink lots and lots and lots of water the day of the test (mine was in the afternoon). Then drink more water. Since I wasn't allowed to drink during the test, I wanted to be super-hydrated, in the hopes that I could pee out some of the sugar if my body needed to.

4. On the way to the test I ate a handful of almonds. Almonds are great for balancing blood sugar!

5. After I drank the nasty glucola I told the nurse I needed to go outside for some fresh, cool air because I felt like I was going to vomit and it was too hot in their office. I walked in front of the building for about 20 min, so that my muscles could use some of the glucose and my body wouldn't have to go into insulin-overdrive to process all the sugar. When I went back in the building, they put me in an exam room. I jogged in place while waiting for my MW (about 10 more min). I also used the restroom (which allowed me even more walking around time).

I passed with flying colors! My blood sugar came back at 95 one hour later, which is just perfect! One other thing I did was to listen to my Hypnobabies pregnancy affirmations daily in the week before the test. I think it really helped calm my anxiety about failing and keep me in a positive frame of mind.

I did a little less prep for mine... I tried not to eat any refined sweets the day before and then ate a protien only breakfast... I drank a lot of water and tried to walk a little during the hour wait... my sugar was 88.
