Pregnant & suffering from vulvodynia - worried!

I don't know why it started, but I developed vulvodynia of some kind last year. I stopped taking BC pills last spring (maybe that had something to do with it?), by July or so started noticing a tremendous amount of pain when my husband and I tried to DTD. The pain hurt so badly that we just kind of stopped being intimate for the most part. We DTD once in three months and wouldn't you know that I got pregnant...my little miracle baby in more than one way. Fast forward to now - my midwife has checked me out for other possible problems (yeast, bv, etc) and those all come back negative (although I do have PCOS and HPV with no external symptoms). I have no symptoms like itching or burning and feel totally fine - except during attempted penetration, which is so painful as to make it basically out of the question.

What I'm really starting to worry about is how this pain could affect my birthing process (this is our first baby). Has anyone else suffered from vulvodynia and given birth? Did it complicate things or make it more painful? Is there anything I can do to make it better or is there anything you found that made it worse? I'm planning on an unmedicated birth, but I'm worried that this pain might make it excruciating. Help!

I don't have personal experience with this, but a friend of mine does.
She is a cofounder of curetogether.com where there is a large community of women with vulvodynia (and other conditions as well).
From what I've seen, there is a huge amount of info and support available through that community, specifically for what you are seeking.

Good luck.
