How much compost?

Hi all,
I need some help with figuring out how much compost to put in my garden. It's about 20'10'. The compost comes in 40 pound bags and equals 7 gallons per bag. Any thoughts? This is a new garden.

How is the existing soil? When I started my garden the soil was pretty good, so I did about a 2-3" layer of compost. A 40lb bag is about 1 cubic foot, so about 4-6 square feet per bag... I know our garden center will sell me a cubic yard of compost for about $40. If you can get ahold of a pickup truck for a day or find someplace that will deliver it would save some money and work.
