Does not stop crying

Hi there,

I hope someone has another idea about what to do, or if we need to see a Doctor? Our little boy is just 4 months (19 weeks) old. Since about 9pm last night he is either crying or napping. That is just not him, usually he wakes up with a smile, ready to play, he has never just cried without being quiet or happy in between.

We have tried, bouncing, carrying, sucking boops, fingers, music, just holding him, talking to him, playing, massaging etc. Nothing seems to console him, and then he just falls back to sleep after 1-2 hrs. He has a low grade fever (99.8, he usually has 97.5 or so).

Any suggestions from more experienced mamas about what this could be or what we can do?

hi! our babe is also 4 m.o. which seems to be an unpredictable cry-y stage...
with teething, babies often get those low grade fevers, but I would at least call the pedi to check. Hope your lo feels better.
our dd did that not too long ago and it was because she was coming down with a cold

Thanks for your answer. It is so hard to figure out what's normal and what's not. I hope your babe is feeling better. He is napping right now, but if he wakes up crying again, I'll call our doctor.

Definitely sounds like teething to me! Can't hurt to call the doctor of course.

sounds like teething to me too - has tylenol helped at all?

Your best bets are either teething (which can be hard at this age because the teeth could just shift around under the gums and not really surface), or an ear infection. They are usually accompanied by a low grade fever too. If it were me I would try some tylenol for his comfort and your sanity.

Has he had any immunizations lately?

I would also suggest some infant motrin (I find the anti-inflammatory properties better for teething). If your lo seems happier than you can probably say its teething. Hope your son is feeling better soon.

No vaxes yet. It might be teething, I just saw a tiny white spot on his lower gum. He is just so needy right now. How long does this stage usually last?
