DS's ped made me mad today!

He asked, "so, are we going to be able to change your mind on vaccinating today?" (DS is un-vaxed.) I just kept it simple and said, "nope." He then smirked/chuckled and said, "well, we'll wear you down eventually."

I'm prepared to let it go and just use him for what western medicine is good for: acute issues, emergencies. Or, we could switch peds.

Our options are:

1) keep him. He's very available after hours via phone for urgent issues. Also, has a solo practice, which means less traffic/germs when we do go in.

2) switch to a more open-minded ped who works in a large ped clinic--it would be less personal and more germy! Good ped availability after hours.

3) switch to a more open-minded ped who has a smaller practice, but who is not very available after hours. There is a number to call after hours, but you end up with a family practice doc. If I need to call after hours, I think I'd prefer a ped since I'll only be calling for something urgent/important.

WDYT?

Depends on how often you want to visit and what you consider urgent. I've never called our ped., so I don't know what kind of situations you would call for. I personally wouldn't want to support a dr. who was that rude to me though.

We haven't been to our wonderful dr. in almost a year now because he told us that WBV are pointless since we aren't vaxing (something he supports us in).

Hmmm... honestly, if he's good in all other ways and you can ignore his comments, then I'd keep him because of the small practice and availability. It's so rare to fine that in a small practice. If you're sure you don't want to vax, then it really doesn't matter what he thinks as long as he treats your LO well and knows his stuff.

ETA: Another thing to consider is that after the first 2 years, you only need to see him annually unless there is an issue. If he bugs you after that, then you can switch to the other more germy place since you won't be there as often.

DS's doctor is very pro-vax. She's definitely not happy with our decision to selective/delay vax, but she's at least respectful. We've chosen to keep her because she is so good in every other aspect. The office is really good about getting us last-minute appointments, the doc is good about follow up, and she's caught onto a few minor medical issues that we would have never noticed. Her bedside manner with DS can't be beat. So I'm willing to pick my battles.

I personally ignore.
I have been for the last 3 years with an otherwise wonderful doctor.

Who knows, maybe you will rub off on him lol
