Simple Simple Simple mitten pattern

I teach a beginning knitting class and one of my elderly students wants to knit a pair of mittens. She started a 2-needle pattern with ribbed cuffs.

Is there anything easier?

She has an extremely difficult time kntting. She can't remember the last stitch that she made at times and basically has to be walked through an entire pattern. Even though it's hard for her to knit. I encourage her because this type of learning and exercise is exactly what she needs.

I think that these mittens will take months for her to finish.

I might go with a scarf just to get her going- while it can be a bit boring, you can see your progress. What does she want to knit?

She has done a scarf already. She wants to knit a pair of mittens to match her scarf.

She has also knit a pair of house slippers. She started those last fall and finished them up 2 weeks ago.

I will just stick with her and encourage her to keep going.

On Ravelry, search "simple mittens" and there will be many free patterns. There is actually one called simple mittens and does not require gauge, etc. Once your student is through the ribbing it should get easier. Hugs to you for sticking by her!
