I take my DS to the bathroom sink every two hours during the night, but we are going to visit relatives for the weekend and my daughter and husband will be in the room with us and I think it might be too disturbing to take him out of the room and across the hall. I need options for pottying him in the room, but he is used to being held in the classic position and he tends to pee straight out or in any crazy direction. Any ideas? I guess I could just open his loincloth and pee him into his diaper and then give him an new one. Anyone have a better idea? I hate using so many diapers in a night.

we used a bblp by the bed. Dd went through phases where she wanted to sit on it then where she only wanted to be held over it (in the classic hold), then where she didn't want to go at night at all.
the bblp fits great in a suitcase and is awesome for travel bcs you can have it in the car, next to the bed, anywere close to where you are and it will make offering so much easier.

Yep, we just used a really big bowl in bed with our DS. Then dump 'the contents' in another bowl on the floor so you don't have to run to the toilet all night. Keep some paper towels nearby so you can wipe out the bowl so drips don't get anywhere. We held him in classic position on the bed, so he was nice and cozy and fell right back asleep. Still does disturb the others in the bed a bit though...
I second practicing it before you go because you definitely don't want leaking in the relatives bed! Maybe bring along a small mattress pad in case. Something like the Nekkie Blankie or others like it, or a felted wool blanket.
Have a fun trip! It was cool when we went on a trip when our DS was like 4 months old, and grampa and uncle both started being able to tell when DS had to go potty and would hand him over!

I use the same system at home and while traveling - a wide-mouthed bottle (I use a vitamin bottle, but Gatorade bottles are about the same size and shape). It enables me to hold DS in my lap, latch him on to nurse so he won't cry and wake everyone up, and then undo his diaper and put the bottle in place with one hand. I also have a flashlight handy, which I put on the bed next to me and shine directly at his crotch, so that I can be sure that the pee is going where it is supposed to go.

Thanks for all the replies! I'm still not sure what I'll end up doing. He pees so forcefully and sometimes it's straight out and sometimes to the side. He's almost 8 months now, but when he was smaller he would cry if I tried to use the bblp. If I did manage to get him to go there, some usually shot out over the top. I'm scared to hold him over a bowl since I have no idea where the pee is going to go, but I guess I could just put a towel on the floor under it. They have hardwood, so it's not that big of a deal. I like the bottle idea, but I think I need to practice that a little before trying it, and we leave tomorrow. Thanks again!

No. We were sleeping on a futon mattress on the floor. I put it at the end of the mattress a few feet away and then scootched over to it. I put the bblp in front of it to catch the poop that happens first thing in the morning.
