Vitex brand recommends (or dislikes)

I've been taking Vitex since late Dec. and have been pretty happy with it in general. (No bfp to report, but I actually O'd on CD12 last cycle- unheard of for me! My puny LP still needs some help, tho...)

I bought what was available local (bc I was impatient ) Nature's Fingerprint, 500mg caps. My bottle is almost gone and I'm wondering if anyone has recommends of brands they like. I think I'd prefer an extract or a tincture to the caps, but am open to more caps as well.

I was a longtime vitex user and tried just about every brand. My favorite was by Planetary Herbals.

What part of your cycle do you take it? The whole time, or just after AF, or...?

I can't figure it out.

Thx Bunzie, will check it out. Mind if I ask what dose you have taken?

Finnegans- I did a bunch of research and asking (my MW, an herbalist and many, many herbal books) before I started taking it, so I'll tell you what I heard and what I decided to do. (possibly someone who's used it longer or actually gotten a bpf might be of more help...)
There seem to be two schools of thoughts about when to take it.

The first is that you take it starting during AF until O, then you stop during your LP. I have read in multiple places that it is not safe throughout pregnancy.

The second is that you take it your whole cycle. If you become pg, then you cannot stop it abruptly, bc it indirectly increases progesterone and you don't want to abruptly decrease the progesterone in an early pg. You slowly decrease your dose throughout the first trimester. I saw many sources recommending Vitex to help prevent mc.

The second way- my whole cycle- is the way I've chosen to take it- in part bc I'm also taking to help relieve endo symptoms (which it has done notably), and in part bc I don't do well with swings of hormones in my body, Mostly, I'm taking it this way b/c that is what my MW recommended and her opinion is the one I trust the most. That's part of why I'm looking for a tincture- it is easier to wean down a tincture than a capsule.

One thing you might want to watch for- you might know this, too, but I've heard of women who take both Maca and Vitex actually NOT O'ing, bc too much progesterone can prevent ovulation.

Hope that helps.

I would take two 500 mg tablets in one dose in the am throughout my cycle.
