Market Day

I was wondering, even here as we're stuck inside for winter, what are the sights, sounds, smells of market day or your farmer's market?

I'm thinking about doing my kitchen in a market day theme. So far, I've come up with hanging "market" bags of fruit and veggies and laying things out in baskets. It's not much and probably doesn't even seem like a theme. That's where I was hoping you mamas could help.

Once again, what comes to mind when you think about market day?

Thanks.

Aww that sounds fun! You could try growing herbs in your window sill, or in a tiered hanging basket in front of the window.

Get a blackboard and put the day's/week's menu on it.

Have some aprons lined up on hooks. They could all be green like you'd see at the market, or in fun colors.

Maybe opening up some of your cabinets so that you look straight at the shelves. That could work for things your pantry as well as for your dishes and pots and pans.

I wonder whether you could get some vintage/thrift store signs that somehow seem market-like. Not sure what they'd say, but I bet that you could find some within the next 4 months if you really kept an eye out for them.

Good luck, sounds like an interesting theme!

Thanks for replying. I was also thinking about using lots of colors. Most of the rooms in my house are black, brown, cream... earthtones. I'd like to mix it up a bit when it comes to the kitchen.

The biggest farmer's market in our town has a huge collection of photos up here:

Flowers, seasonal produce, eggs, potted plants, colorful tents, baked goods, candles, coffee, music, people...
