The kids' new dvd, Ponyo, has a great scene that normalizes breastfeeding. A mama tells Ponyo that her baby is too young for the soup Ponyo offers her, but she the mama can eat it so as to help make milk for her baby. Then Ponyo gives the mama a sandwich and tells her it is for her to eat so she can make more milk. ♥ LLLove it!

I remember that! What was so great was that we saw Ponyo this summer as DD's first movie theater experience to celebrate her weaning!

I'm waiting in line to get this from the library. I can't remember what number my reservation is, but we're definitely excited about it. We love Miyazaki films. The breastfeeding scene sounds wonderful.

We rented it this weekend. The kids loved it, and even my teenager thinks Ponyo is about as cute as cute gets (except in her transition form...she looked scary!). I found the scene about breastfeeding really odd, not because of the exchange between Ponyo and the mother, but because of the whole...why were they there? Why was everyone so "okay - that's cool" about a pair of five year olds heading off alone in a boat in those conditions?

I like Miyazaki's work, but nothing has impressed me as much as Spirited Away. We still haven't seen My Neighbor Totoro or Howl's Moving Castle. I'll have to find them somewhere, but I haven't checked the library yet.

Took DD to see this in the theatre and counted the days until it came out on DVD. We LOVE this movie. It's led us to watch some of the directors other films and they are all wonderful so far.

DD (3.5) loves it so much that we are doing a Ponyo themed Easter basket. I picked up a bento box and music box on eBay. Seeing it was produced by Disney, I was surprised at the lack of commercial and branded products. Seems like Disney didn't follow their m.o. for this film. Sad - it's the only disney movie I've wanted to buy a few branded products! All the eBay stuff came from Japan.

I loved this movie so much
The only part I had any issue with was the fact the mother left the 2 kids alone for the night, and they eventually went off to find her. Well, I wasn't upset so much as thinking "there is no way in cuss I could do that with my dd. She would step out of the house and drown " Such a independent, self-sufficient child.
Great movie otherwise
