How close is too close to EDD to go to a big concert?

One of my favorite bands is playing a show in my area on 4/20 and I'm due 5/6.... This kiddo is my first baby and I know many first kids come along past the EDD.... but is two weeks before hand cutting it too close to go to a big hard rock concert in your opinion?

I'd say if it's in the town you live in, then no it's not cutting it too close. I went to a NHL hockey game 2 days before my due-date. It was fun, and kept me from sitting around just waiting for the baby to come.

As long as it's a seated concert, I would totally go. I'd never be able to stand for that long at that point in pregnancy, though. Is it a ton of money to be out on the chance you go early?

Honestly, I wish I had somewhere to go. My EDD is Monday and I'm bored out of mind. (Thus, all my time hanging out on MDC the last couple of days.)

I'm not sure if I would go... Not just because you might miss it or be really uncomfortable, but because of the noise. It's my understanding that amniotic fluid can amplify sounds to the baby and I wouldn't want it to be too loud for him/her.

There's actually a show about an hour from my birth center 9 days after my due date. And if I am still waiting on this baby at that point, you bet I'll be there! We'll put the bag in the car in case we have to leave the concert for labor!

BUT, this is a little folk show, so I wouldn't need to buy tickets ahead of time, and it can be a last minute thing.

So, my answer to your question is that it depends on how far away it is, and how much money it costs.

So long as it's nearby where you would like to give birth or a suitable alternative, I'd go. My friend went to see U2 a week or so before giving birth to her DD. If you have the energy, go for it.

I say go for it. DH and I went to so many concerts during my pregnancy. Towards the end, I was grateful for seated concerts since I really couldn't stand for hours at a time anymore. But it was great.

I guess we were afraid we might not get to anymore once we had a baby. Thank goodness that turned out not to be true.....

Go for it. I've always seen shows up until I give birth. The only show I would NOT see while pregnant is My Bloody Valentine. With their record-breaking decibel levels (literally) I would be nervous...the last time I saw them (with ear protection obviously) it was so loud all the way in the back that my face was vibrating and people without ear plugs were running out of the room to puke. But any band that does that wall of sound type of thing, you'd be aware of beforehand. Those I would avoid.

I'm so glad you posted this thread. I have been wondering the same thing. I'm due 5/15 and going to a concert 90 minutes away on 4/23. I think as long as I can sit I'll be fine and so will you!

I saw the Smashing Pumpkins 3 (LOUD) nights in a row when I was 30 weeks with my daughter and her hearing is fine. As long as you can purchase/find a seat, I'd say go for it. The shows I went to were GA, but I sat at in the bar 2 of the nights and club security let me sit with them to the side of the stage the other night. It's amazing how nicely people will treat a hugely pregnant woman at a concert

I likely wouldn't go just because of comfort issues. I'm not all that comfortable at that stage and really just want to lounge around close to home. But that's a personal thing. I think if you feel comfortable and restless it would be fine. Is it a band you won't be able to see again for awhile? That would be a big factor for me. And noise too. I went to see a wall of sound band with this pregnancy at about 14 weeks. It was in a small club and it was SUPER loud. I could feel my uterus vibrating and I ended up waiting outside for my friends (but the lead singer did rub my belly:P). I'm going to see a quieter show this Sunday and it will likely be my last.

I went to see a band a few weeks ago and was sooooo nervous about the sound level. I could feel that EVERYTHING in me was vibrating...even the gas in my rectum (tmi, I know, but it illustrates the point). I chose to leave after about two songs. The volume level, combined with the thought of my baby being exposed to those sounds/vibrations, was making me feel panicky in a way I've rarely experienced.

Personally, I would not attend a loud or indoor concert at that stage, unless it was seated and you knew the volume level would be acceptable. Outdoor concerts might be another story, but again...I'd be aware of where the speakers are. Babies can get damaged hearing, too.

Go! It'll be good for you, just don't stand next to the speakers. If you are really concerned about the noise for the baby put a cd player in the bathroom when you're taking a bath, crank it up and submerge yourself...the noise really does get muffled out pretty good.

not as close to my EDD but I am have general admission standing only floor tix to see Alice Cooper and Rob Zombie when I'll be, um, 34 weeks I think. I am SO excited! I figure I'll just have to stay away from the mosh pit, and worst case scenario I can bring a wheel chair

I saw Slayer and Unsane in a small club when I was about that pregnant with my DD...I was on the floor (but on the outskirts) and everyone was very considerate and I had a seat at the bar for most of the night (and it was a rough show, watched two big guys get carried out with broken legs).

Yeah, the show I want to see (it's 30 Seconds to Mars, btw...) is general admission/standing only.... about two hours from my home in New Hampshire out into Boston. Being so far from our birth center near our home.... without my DH in the slim chance I may go into labor is what worries me.

If I were you I would go, but I'd wait to get tickets just in case (or have somebody who wants to buy them from you on back up). That'd be my only concern! (mind you, I wouldn't look forward to a 2 hour drive, especially without DH, unless you have somebody to drive you if your labour starts). You'd prob be in labour for more than two hours, just maybe pretty unhappy to be in a car!
