Sick 2mo old with cough

Hello My 10 week old woke up Monday morning with a cough. It's not a dry cough, yet not very wet... somewhat croupy but not croupy enough to be called croupy She also does this yelping thing (possibly stridor, I think it's called, though I may be way off) She had what I suspected to be a low grade fever a few times, but just nursing her skin to skin seemed to bring it down. She's not congested in any way. She vomited once today, after her morning nursing session. She was laying on her back (crib mattress elevated by a pillow under it, in case she starts getting a runny nose), turned her head to the side and threw up half of the milk she got from me. It was a bit forceful but not necessarily projectile if ykwim. A minute later, the rest of her milk came up, just the same.

I put in a phone call to the nurse at her doctor's office so they should be calling me back. Being Thursday, and the cough starting Monday, I'm a bit worried (though I tend to over react).

I know alot of mamas here on MDC aren't fans of calling the doctor, so I was wondering if there's anything in particular that you would do I'm expecting to get lectured because we don't vaccinate And they're going to try and say she has pertussis or something that could have been prevented (uhh.. NO, because her shots would have been around a week ago and I don't think she'd have developed immunity in less than a week with one dose of DTaP).

*ahem*
Anyways... WWYD mamas. I feel bad for my poor sick kiddo! On a side note, I've got a little bit of a runny nose and sore throat, fwiw.

I had a similiar experience with DS: you can try many of the things you do for croup; nurse in a steamy bathroom, use a humidifier or vaporizer, although you should be wary of menthol with ones that young. Li'l remedies makes a chest rub like vicks, but without menthol that might be soothing for him.

If he is coughing up anything, is it clear or is it greenish? (DS just had clear, so we would suction with the bulb suctioner as often as we could)

As for the throwing up, baby probably swallowed some mucous that upset her tummy. (my guess) Unless it is a bacterial thing that the doc can give antibiotics for, I don't think there is much doc can do. I know if it gets very bad, like RSV, etc, they can order a nebulizer.

As for non-vaxing and pertussis - we don't vax either, and besides, pertussis has a very distinctive cough - hence "whooping cough" - I don't think he'd diagnosis it as that if it weren't. We get more info on vaxes each time we see the ped, but so far he has been ok with us not vaxing. here's hoping little one feels better soon!

It took about a week for DS to get over the runny nose and wet-ish cough. he still dry hacks once in a while, but I'm pretty sure it's just the dust in the house. (bad mama! I need to clean house!)

Thanks! Since she's doing the whole stridor thing they want me to bring her in tomorrow morning. It sounds like she's trying to cough something up, though I haven't seen anything as of yet.
