Are we nursing or wrestling?

My 3 month old is a great eater but sometimes she's writhing around! It's kind of funny. It's not at every feeding but I'll look down and ask her if she has somewhere to go and she smiles at me. I'm glad she's not biting! She hangs on and kicks her legs and smushes up against me with her face. Anyone else have an active baby nurser?

As my DS has gotten older, I find that I can't watch tv or carry on a conversation because he's constantly moving. I'm afraid he'll fly out of my arms one of these days!

Unless he is really sleepy, DS is ALWAYS moving around, and pulling off to smile and coo at me. I think its so cute.

Definitely wrestling! I think DD started that around 3 months too, and now that she's 6 months it's even worse because she'd almost rather be crawling around or watching everyone and every pet than eat. Not too fun when she doesn't unlatch and twists her head around to see what made a noise. She also will pop off and on, and it's a struggle to get her to eat most days.

Wiggling at 3 months, flipping around at 6 months. Now we're at 8 months and he is really aware of what my breasts are and what all he can do and still stay attached. So, when I'm side laying and he's side laying, he starts out by rolling onto his belly while attached. Then he'll get his bottom in the air like he's about to take off crawling, then he'll be on top of my breast, looking down at it to eat. At this point he's finished most of the meal, so he'll eat a little, look at it, fiddle with it, eat some more, repeat and then crawl away. It's very interesting to say the least. Have fun!

My lo is only 3w and it's a wrestling match each time! Once he's latched it's fine, but getting him on takes at least 4 hands! He won't keep his hands away from his mouth long enough to get him latched on. Sadly, I don't really find it too cute at this point...my nipples are still pretty sore, so ANYTHING touching them hurts. It's hard enough to nurse, better yet deal with the nails and struggle of getting him latched correctly. I have to swaddle him to nurse him just to keep his hands down (and he HATES having his hands tucked in!). Hopefully, once he's smiling about it and my nipples have fully adjusted, I'll find it more endearing

mamatojackson, it will get better!!!! Those first few weeks can be hard but after awhile you'll realize you aren't dealing with those same things and you get the best parts of nursing! I'm nursing my 4th baby and while I would never not breastfeed, there are plenty of irritants while getting started.

Hang in there!

I discovered early on that we can only nurse in football hold for this exact reason... he'd kick and kick and kick until he went one way, the pillows went another way and I didn't have enough hands to hold everything. But in the football hold he can kick to his heart's content and he's not going anywhere.

I remember that - it sure felt like wrestling. Arms and legs were flailing. My answer was to get out the swaddle. She calmed down enough to eat and I didn't feel like I had a mini huricane on my nursing pillow.

That's funny, Jen! It's always so fascinating to watch them go from needy newborns who "live" for nursing, to older kids who take it for granted!

boobs4milk- I love that pic. This is how my DS eats. He's 8 months old. I guess it's not going to change anytime soon. I try to cuddle him in closer and he just pushes away and escapes until he gets in this position where he feels more in control.

Jen, that is such a sweet photo! I can't imagine what my little wiggle worm will be like at that age. Sometimes it's adorable and sometimes it's maddening. I want to tell him, "Ya know, the boob is a stationary target. You can actually just lie there and relax and suck." Well, I do tell him that, but at 5 months he hasn't really been listening.

My favourite is when he pops off the nipple, whips his head around and starts furiously suckling my upper arm. Then after a few moments he pops off that and gives me this look like, "Hey Lady, this thing is BROKEN!"

He's actually more of a rodeo cowboy than a wrestler. He's bouncing around, his free (upper) arm waving in the air like he's trying to stay on a bucking bronco. And occasionally as he's flailing about he'll end up smacking my upper chest or shoulder. Yee-haw!!!

MarciB, my nipples were soooo sore the first couple weeks. I just had to grit my teeth every time he latched on. I remember thinking, "a year (or more) of this? No way!" And I remember struggling to get those tiny hands out of the way (newborns are part octopus, I think!) But it really truly does get better.

lmao becca...rodeo cowboy!!! millie is so much calmer than natalie was. if i nursed her while doing anything else, she'd get nosy and streeeeeeetch my nipple to look around. i swear i now have footlong nipples thanks to her curious nature.

thank you all for the compliments. i have another of her that's even funnier, but it shows nipple lol!!!

OMG Bella so totally does that! She'll kick about all over the place (she just discovered the wonder of having legs and uses them at every opportunity - she actually grizzles to be held upright so she can brace herself on her legs! Still!!!) and flick me on the boobs, and grab my boobs, punch my boobs and sometimes (and this is SO cute) she makes this "eeek!" face and then just ploughs into my boob with an actual growl - a GROWWWL! Grrrrrr and she's on with a huge mouthful like she's attacking, like a big cat!

That is the funniest, and truest, analogy I've ever heard!

We are wrestling here too! I find there are less wiggles if I lay down to nurse as much as possible. He doesn't wiggle and smile, he wiggles and screams when the nipple falls out!
