just wondering; i know there are a lot of us here and dp and i are curious. Please answer the poll, and feel free to stick around and chat.

it's a hard question, though! we just finished watching TOS, and now we have every season of every series (except for the animated series). I thought DS9 was my favorite, but now i am not so sure; i REALLY enjoyed Spock and Kirk and Bones, et al and maybe the original crew was my favorite. i know watching them made me appreciate and understand other things....like how Kor and those old Kling-ons from DS9 had 1st appeared in TOS; I didn't realize that before.

Also, I had previously only watched Voyager straight through only once, and it was my LEAST favorite....but now we are watching it again and I am really enjoying it this time....although i can't imagine that the finale will be any better this time....i thought it was a terrible let down.

and speaking of finales. i had read that Roddenberry had wanted each episode to stand alone, but i was so badly disappointed the other night when we went to bed and i asked dp to bring the episodes and he said "we're done. "The Cage" last night was the last episode." i guess i was expecting some kind of finale and not just a regular episode.

anyway, as i said, i am really curious to see which series other trekkers prefer.

TOS. Not even a question. TNG runs a very, very close second.

All the other series, DS9, Voyager and Enterprise, were pale imitations of TNG. I'd enjoy the characters, etc., as entertaining, but they were never more than just entertaining.

But TOS and TNG had episodes that were just brilliant and original, with stories and moments that just totally stayed with you.

TNG. I'm too young to really appreciate TOS although as I've gotten older I've started enjoying the vintage-ness of it.

DS9 had too many high maintenance people, Voyager felt too episodic "what's the alien of the week?" "how will Gilligan screw up them getting home?" (I exaggerate), plus I was in high school then and that really didn't support the sort of intensely interested TV watching I could get back with TNG was airing.

Enterprise, might be fabulous, since I don't have television service no idea.

That said, favorite episodes EVER are the two Tribble episodes from TOS and DS9.

me, too. i thought it was brilliant when i saw how seamlessly they integrated TOS footage in the ds9 episode. Worf is so freaking hilarious when he first sees the tribble. I Worf!

I know I *should* say TOS, but I have trouble getting into it. I think I've been spoiled by modern TV/film techniques , it all seems over-the-top hokey to me.

Gonna be a rebel and say my favorite is Voyager, though I agree that the finale was a HUUUUUUUGE let-down. I thought that of all the non-original series, it was the closest in spirit to the original series... TNG and DS9 seemed to be more about politics and/or war over exploration. I also, for a reason I can't quite define, like the character set more than any other series. In that sense, I kind of *like* the alien-of-the-week aspect. The idea of each episode as a standalone mini-movie appeals to me (I also like the monster-of-the-week episodes of X-Files more than the ones that pushed along the overarching plot, just so everyone knows where I'm coming from). We reached the end of season 7 and were kind of bummed... and not just because the final episode was so very sucky; we were bummed that there were no more to watch.

I'd probably put TNG second. I LOVED it in high school, but when I've gone back and watched it as an adult it hasn't quite measured up to what I thought it was. I should Netflix it in order and see what I really think of the series as an entire unit, because even when I watched them in high school, it was never in the right order, or I'd miss episodes, or whatever.

Can't really stand DS9. A few of the character/character interactions were interesting, but I just don't dig the political intrigue/war storyline. And (and yes, I know this is the whole point as they are a station, not a ship), they rarely WENT anywhere. DH and I tried Netflixing and just couldn't get into it.

Never saw much of Enterprise. Might consider Netflixing it at some point. The one episode I saw seemed OK, but I don't have enough info to have a real opinion.

Fave episodes... yes, tribbles are great, but anything with a Q REALLY tickles my funny bone.

The characters/crew on Voyager are my LEAST favorite. I really like "the Doctor," and Ethan Phillips is great, although Neelix can get annoying. Like i said, i am enjoying it more watching it the 2nd time now, but IMO the actor who played Chakotay acts REALLY badly and it annoys me no end. Janeway is the Capt I like least, and Tuvok my least fave Vulcan ever.

I did get annoyed by the emissary/ wormhole alien stuff and the plot lines, too. But I just love the cast/ crew in DS9 so much, especially after Worf came on and the Kling-ons were featured so much. Well, not so much Bashir (or Kira or a lot of the "bad guys"-except the Cardassians), but Sisko and Dax and Odo and Garack and Quark and Worf and OBrien and all the Ferengis and I loved the character development on Dukat. And just the space station thing was so interesting to me; everytime i watch ds9, i think HOW MUCH FUN it would have been to work on, with so many different alien races, etc.
And I definitely like the theme music and opening sequence best on this one.

yeah, but when they did they did it in the Defiant, which was such a bad@ss ship!

IMO, this show "felt" the most like the spirit of TOS. They dropped the ball on this show and it isn't one of my favorites, BUT I REALLY liked Capt Archer and the Vulcan T'Pol, and their chemistry together. I sure wish they wouldn't have used that hokey theme song, though!

You didn't mention my mostest favoritest character on the show... Seven of Nine. We regularly quote her around the house... "Fun will commence now." We always loved Doctor episodes and Seven episodes most of all. Or maybe you're not back to where she joined the show yet. But I like where they had gone with her by the end of the series.

I think I would like Janeway a whole lot more were it not for her voice . Chakotay was never my favorite, so I kind of agree there, I love The Doctor, I agree on Neelix... well-acted, but the character was a bit annoying (maybe on purpose? I can't tell; it's a fine line).

Maybe I need to give DS9 another go. You're so persuasive ;-)

I liked TOS

I didn't really watch DS9 or Voyager.

I really tried to give Enterprise a shot, I watched all of them but they had this huge storyline. They didn't do interesting things and leave the storyline going in the background it was storyline-every-week. It was like you are stuck in the boring bits of Les Miserables like "omg just get to the point!!!" So once the storyline was over there wasn't a good foundation.

I do like a bit of alien-of-the-week mixed in with storyline, or even a bit of pestilence-of-the-week mixed in.

TNG is sometimes harder for me to watch now more than TOS. They do a lot more standing around and talking then stop talking and move on to next location without talking.

It just seems more obvious and awkward in TNG Plus the Crushers never really stop being annoying and the end of the season was a bit discombobulating. It wasn't well planned at all.

Both Enterprise and TNG ended bad IMO.

I would probably give DS9 and Voyager a go at some point.

The Ferengi episode of Enterprise was hilarious

Hands down TOS, followed by STNG. I have been a trekker or trekkie, from the start 1966-1969 for the original series. I have about 200 star trek books, with 2 bookcases dedicated to them, and all the movies. Tomorrow is my 33 wedding anniversary. The night we were married, I told my husband we had to hurry home because Star Trek was coming on! Kirk or Picard, that is the question.

I cant decide it is between TNG, Enterprise & Voyager.

It makes it more difficult that I read all the books.

I loved TOS as a kid, and hated TNG when it first came out. But, now TOS kind of bugs me. It's mostly Kirk, I think - he was never my favourite. I'm not sure.

I like the cast of DS9 the best, but the show didn't quite click for me, somehow. Individual episodes were great, but I just didn't get that "I don't want to miss it this week" feeling, yk?

Overall, I probably like TNG, then TOS, then...hmm...kind of a toss-up between DS9 and Voyager - probably DS9, although I really like Janeway. I never did watch Enterprise.

I will say that, even though I love the series, overall, the first half of the first season of TNG makes me wince. It was sooooo awkward.

TNG started when I was 12, so it will always have a special place in my heart. I have the best memories of gathering with all of my renaissance fair crew on Saturday nights to watch. That helped me survive those years.

Yes! A friend had it on DVD, so I watched the first few episodes of season one and... yeah. I wanted to laugh but it was almost too awkward.

Definitely TOS. I love the whole Kirk - Spock - McCoy dynamic, and Spock is my fave character ever. Even though some of the episodes are really campy and show their age (and not only in effects, but the writing!) it still has that special Trek feeling for me. TNG comes second, although I hated Data. DS9, VOY and ENT I have not seen completely, but the technobabble usually managed to annoy me in plenty of episodes I did see.

I also have about 100 Trek books and read them often. They're all TOS books.

TOS - is my least favorite. I'm weird, I know. But I was really excited about the new cast movie they just did!

TNG - My second fave, and a very very close second. I love the social commentary. Love Picard.

DS9 - Again, I'm obviously weird. My favorite. I loved the continuing story line, it kept me on the edge of my seat. Loved many of the characters.

Voyager - It was ok. I liked The Doctor and thought Janeway was great. Chakotay was hot. Finale was a huge disappointment.

Enterprise - eh. I liked it better than TOS but it was hard to get used to. It wasn't Roddenberry. I thought the sexy shower scene was dumb. It didn't have the same Star Trek feel. They were understandably a bit limited in some ways, though.

Aw, I voted TNG and now I feel bad that Enterprise doesn't have a single vote yet. That's my second favorite, we really enjoyed that series and cast.
Wow, no more votes for DS9? I thought y'all were a discerning bunch!

I love TNG, but the first several seasons were AWFUL. Ditto for Voyager and Enterprise, and DS9 to an extent, but the latter at least picked up more quickly and had a solid, defined arc from the get-go. Early TNG is painful to re-watch, with the actors clearly uncomfortable and the scripts so darn plodding. Plus *cough* Deanna.

C'mon, DS9 had the episode with the Niners! And the casino episode! And Nog's leg! And shades of grey and the Federation's seedy underbelly! And Miles and Julian doing RAF banter! And Quark's mother! And Odo carrying that torch for Kira for season after season! And Keiko's baby! And a finale that actually didn't suck! And some of the best things about TNG - Worf, Q, Murdoch (erm, I mean... whatsisname whose name I temporarily forget because of watching the A-Team), not to mention Miles getting his chance to shine.

Not to mention very little, if any, Wesley Crusher. It's possible he made a few guest appearances and I blocked them out.

The one thing that might tip the scales in TNG's favour is the line "Prune juice... a warrior's drink!". But Word got plenty of good lines in DS9 as well.

Edited to add, because I'm in a ranty mood: Also, TNG was always tiptoeing around the status quo. Riker and Deanna's romance never went anywhere until the movies, because their relationship (for some inexplicable reason) always had to stay the same. Same with Picard and Crusher. It was so... sitcom. Like in The Six Million Dollar Man and The Bionic Woman, where Steve and Jaime found themselves getting married, what? 15 or 20 years later in the reunion movie? In DS9 and Voyager they at least let relationships develop and progress, instead of just giving the main characters flings-of-the-week. Tom and B'Elanna, Odo and Kira, Worf and Jadzia... much more memorable. (Seven and Chakotay, though? Not good.)

I couldn't decide between TOS and TNG.

I love the oldest one where Spock is calling out orders like he's on a submarine.

I quite like some of the other one's but not all of them. Deep Sleep, i mean Space, Nine is definitely my least fave. I did enjoy the new movie on the big screen, but i found spock strangely effeminate when i watched the dvd in a way i didn't notice in the cinema.

Oh, tell me about it. I can just hear the producers: "Our audience thinks Chakotay is hot, and we know Seven is a babe, so that's an obvious match!!"

But there was ZERO chemistry between them.
