Any downside to Evening Primrose Oil?

I'm planning to start 500 mg orally and 500 mg vaginally at 36.5 weeks.

Other than it possibly not doing anything, is there any *downside*? My understanding has always been that it won't cause labor if I'm not ready, anyway, and even if it doesn't speed the due date it will help cervix to open more quickly in labor.

Right?

That is what I have heard as well. The only reason why I won't be taking any - is because I am going for a vaginal birth after a c-section. I have had a handful of recommendations not to take it because of my scar tissue. There isn't really enough research on it - but I won't risk it.

It's messy vaginally. If you use it, wear a panty liner. Half my maternity pants are stained a weird yellow from it

I did it with my last two and I don't think I will this time. I don't think it did anything other than making me feel like I was doing something, ykwim?
