Where do you get American Girl Doll knock offs. There was a thread that gave some places a while back but I can't find it. My dd bought a small American Girl Doll for a very high price and I was horrified to discover that American Girl Dolls are made in China. I don't mind things made in China normally, but I don't want my dd to support a company that gouges peoples pocketbooks for a highly coveted and cheaply made toy. I also don't like the idea of my dd thinking that if she just has enough money to spend on things as coveted as these dolls that she will be happy. If I am going to give her a lot of money to spend on a toy it had better be made either locally or at least in the same country we live in. She has agreed that it is silly to spend that much on dolls just for the brand name and would like to buy dolls that are like the American Girl ones, but for a much more reasonable price.

My DD has a My Generation doll from Target and we got her a Madame Alexander doll from Costco at Xmas. Both were under $30-.
My DD saved up $ to go the the American Girl Doll store in LA. It was CRAZY in there. She had $80 and it was only enough for 2 outfits (I splurged for a third one for her). I felt bad for her because there were kids there who were just pointing and saying "I want that, and that, and that" and their Mothers, Grandmothers, Nannys were filling up bags & carts for them.
I also found great deals on Craigslist for 2nd hand American Girl items in perfect condition.
