Bean smoothies? Or what other veggies do you add to your smoothies?

I drink a smoothie every evening, usually as my "dessert" as it curbs my desire for sweets.

A typical smoothie includes:

(handful of each approx, since I make about 30 oz at a time)
-Kale
-Raspberries (or blueberries, strawberries, etc.)
-Banana
-Avocado
-Protein powder
-Water (or watered down juice or milk, depending on my mood)
-Ice

I've tried carrots and celery, but both are stringy enough that I have to chew and I dislike having to chew my smoothies. :/ Also, the taste of those two can overpower the fruit taste, which I don't care for. I typically aim for kale over spinach, since kale is said to have more protein in it.

If you do green/protein smoothies, what other veggies have you tried and liked?

I think I may try beans. I was looking and found a few sites that talked about bean smoothies. I dislike beans (except for honeybaked ) but it sounds like another good alternative, especially when I am wanting to add more protein to my diet. But what kind to try in my smoothies?

I don't think I could do beans. I love beans, we usually eat them four times a week or so. How you are preparing the beans when you make them?

You might try blending up the carrots and celery, straining it then do the rest of the smoothie

If the kale isn't well blended it makes me gag

Do you put yogurt in your smoothies?

I put carrots in smoothies sometimes, mainly to get my DD to eat them. If I do, I steam the carrots first until they are soft.

I think since my blender isn't that high quality, it's why I can't do carrots or celery. It leaves the carrots in itty bitty chunks, just enough that I feel I must chew it or I'll gag. LOL.

That's a good idea about steaming. Don't know why I didn't think of that. Thanks!

My blender is cheap too, I really cannot chew the kale bits. I would puke.

I've read it helps if you chop it up first. I don't chop up my kale, I just put in the full stems, lol. But my blender handles it, thankfully. It turns the smoothies green, but I don't think I see any bits of it in there.

I sometimes add wheatgrass as well. I do chop that up, otherwise it gets wrapped around the blade. I sometimes see bits of it, but I don't feel them in my mouth or throat as I am drinking the smoothie?

You might not really notice garbanzos or white beans. I am not sure though.

I wrote down both on my shopping list. I'll try it tonight and report back. I am kind of scared, lol. I just hate beans, so I am praying the fruit overpowers them.

I don't know if it will. I think I would gag. (I do have a bad gag reflex)

Nuts are very nice in smoothies and not beany or gooey at all.

Garbanzo beans equals HUGE thumbs up!

Recipe from tonight..

Keep in mind that how much I put in makes about 30-35 oz! I like to split this up into two drinks, one for evening and one for late evening (when I always get a craving for sweets!). If I don't specify how much of something I put in, that's because it's a handful.

-1/4 large avocado
-1/2 cup garbanzo beans
-Raspberries
-Blueberries
-1 Banana
-1/3 cup watered down pineapple juice
-Protein powder
-Ice

I forgot kale. Doh. But this was plenty! I was just adding in things as I thought of them, didn't plan it out in advance, lol. I was just excited to try the beans. You can definitely taste a difference with them vs. without, but with them it tastes even better. YAY!
