WWYD? Seek out OB in case of Transfer?

I am currently in a midwife's care and am planning a homebirth. However, there are possibilities that I could risk out of my midwife's care early on (discovery of twins) or late in the game (breech baby).

I have been sure of my choice to homebirth and have not interviewed any OBs in my area. In this instance, would you interview some OBs to see if there is one you are compatible with in case of a need for a hospital birth?

I also am considering the idea of a 20 week ultrasound just to ease my mind, and would need to seek an OBs care to get one. Any suggestions on how to go about discussing this with an OB?

I do have a OB/GYN that I have seen for my well-woman care but I don't know how I would feel about using him as my OB. I don't know his thoughts on natural birth and I get the impression he thinks I am generally uninformed.

Thanks for your thoughts!

If you want to touch base with a Dr. I would see if your midwife has any recommendations. My midwife gave me a few to choose from that she has worked with and knows are "homebirth" friendly.

I saw my Dr. 4 times (and quite possibly 5, if I make it to 41 weeks). She didn't really do anything that my midwife couldn't do though. I did get bloodwork done through her, but I declined the ultrasound.

I personally don't look for a personal relationship with an OB for my pregnancy. I don't think that I would risk out of care with my mw, she'd do twins and breech. And in the case of emergency transfer, I'm comfortable with whoever is on staff at my nearest hospital. Now if I didn't feel comfortable with having twins or breech at home, I would look for an OB suggested by either my mw or other local folks.

Are you sure you can't get the ultrasound through your mw? Mine can order ultrasounds and lab work if needed, even though she technically can't attend births (as a CPM) in my state --- funny how things work.
