Can progresterone cream be harmful?

I was on progresterone supp with my last pregnancy. I don't know if the supp were really necessary ... following my 3rd beta draw my doc said my progesterone was within the normal range, but lower than they liked to see it.

This time around we are not using a fertility clinic and no one will be monitoring my progesterone levels. Do you think there's any harm in using progesterone cream? I realize it may keep my period at bay even if I'm not preggo, but beside that are their any risks to using it after ovulation has been confirmed?

If you do not need it, excessive use can lead to weight gain and other troubles... using the cream could end up not even working if you do not follow the directions closely (if you do not change the place where you apply it each time, the fat under the skin gets saturated and no longer absorbs it)

As far as I know... as long as you make sure not to use it until ovulation is 100% confirmed... thats all the risks.

i havent found anything harmful mentioned for use in luteal phase. in general, from what i've read the risks seem similar to bc pills- a little progesterone does slightly increase chances of a couple things, like if you have clotting issues, it may not be a good idea. but since you were cleared to use it in your last pregnancy, i would think your health history is good to go as far as that, right?

is your luteal phase good? you might just talk to your hcp about a blood test or about trying it if you think progesterone might be a problem.
