A post of hope :)--for anyone doubting AP and baby 'shyness'

I just wanted to share this for anyone else who has a "slow to warm up" "shy" whatever---the baby who does not go to others.

My DD is now 3. From about 6 months on, she would snuggle into me and hide her face if somebody new so much as talked to her while I held her. *EVENTUALLY* she'd look and play and stuff but it took a *long* time.
She also could not be left even with my mom for more than an hour or so till about 18 months--nursing.

I never forced her to go to anyone, we were *one being* pretty much until about 18 months or so.

Today, I took her to the Y, where she stays at the child watch while I work out. Today was the first trip without big brother.

She said "Mom, I'm going to play by myself and you go!"

It DOES happen! At 3, she is happy to go off for a short time and stay at the playroom at the Y. Last week, she *ran* to my aunt, who she has not seen for a year "Hi! I drew this for you!" She is *begging* to go to preschool, next fall can't come soon enough for her.

So....do NOT despair. It WILL change.

Hurray! My niece was a very shy baby/toddler (just like her mom) and she hit 2 1/2 and that was the end of that lol. It's very reassuring to see that yes they do grow out of it in there own time. I believe having AP parents helps them to feel secure enough to let there light shine so to speak.

Way to go listening to what your daughter and respecting her need for shyness.

It doesn't always happen that soon, though. I never forced my ds and he's only just now sometimes going to play on his own (still in my sight) at seven!
