Overweight kids - Page 3

I totally agree your son sounds like he has a blood sugar problem. I used to be the same way. Since going low grain and sugar, I can skip meals without feeling like I'm going to kill someone. My dd too. His insulin is spiking throughout the day. MDA is a great site that can explain this too.

I should elaborate - I started testing my own blood sugar throughout the day & realized that I had post-prandial hypoglycemia - meaning that if I ate something carby or sugary, my body pumped out too much insulin & my blood sugar would after AFTER EATING. The only way for me to maintain a steady blood sugar & feel good is to lose the carbs and stay far away from sugar - all kids - raw honey, maple syrup, all of it. Potatoes, rice, lentils, they're all the same as a spoonful of sugar to my body & I feel the same reaction.

If I cook my own rice in pure bone broth with gobs of butter, I can handle a few spoonfuls (as part of a high protein, high fat meal.) But that's about it. I also notice that when my adrenals are doing better, I have better glucose control, but when my adrenals are really struggling, 2 french fries can leave me feeling dizzy with heart palps. Since I'm aware of the long-term affects of blood sugar/insulin issues (like heart disease, diabetes, etc), it's not so hard for me to stay away from the "bad stuff."

not liking 9or having an aversion) to protien/animal foods can be a sign of not having enough stomach acid, which often leads to people being dx w/gerd. one fix for this is eating low carb/sugar and high good fats w/moderate protien.
