We've had our BG 3.0 diapers for 14 months now..I use them pretty exclusively. Problem is, I've never had luck stripping them. I've tried all the tricks, dawn, bleach, etc...nothing seemed to work. I finally just started using about a teaspoon of bleach in every wash because it was the only way to keep the ammonia smell away. This was fine for a long time. Well, yesterday, my son leaked through every diaper he wore, at the bands around the legs. I've heard this is from detergent buildup. I forgot to mention we have HE front-loading washer, which I think is the problem. I can't ever see the suds in the first place because so little water is used in the wash. Any tricks to strip these diapers with a front loading HE washer? I am afraid I've ruined these diapers! I have 12 of them, so that would really suck! I really love the conveinence of these diapers, and would hate to switch to anything else. I do have prefolds and covers on hand just in case, but I love the BG!

I can't answer the stripping question but I know that bleach is supposed to be really bad for cloth diapers. Have you tried white vinegar instead? That was a huge help for us in combatting smell.
We can't do a fancy pre-rinse so I wash on hot with Charlie's Soap and then do a full hot wash with nothing but some white vinegar. The extra rinse stops any buildup and the vinegar helps to remove any odor build up. (I use FB ony).

A while ago I found somewhere a page from BG recommending that for stripping with HE you should pour a pitcher of water over the load and really let the inserts soak it up. The extra weight will make your washer think it's a larger load and it will use more water. I haven't done it though so I'm not sure how it would work.
What kind of detergent are you using? Country Save is great.

What detergent do you use? My DS1's diapers were leaking every.single.time for several months. We'd used allens naturaly for two years w/o issue (and only washing once hot/cold w/ a lil detergent and an extra rinse), then all of a sudden had issues. I switched to ecover and it got worse. I tried stripping w/ dawn, multiple HOT washes (even took'm to the laundry mat for that), everything. I finally orderd some planet detergent and the issue went away with a single wash! So, now I'm using planet all the time.
All that to say: Try a different detergent! If I ever have issues like that I plan on going back to allens. My guess is that theres something in allens & ecover share that built up on my diapers and that planet got out. Good luck!!

I'll try the pitcher of water thing..I literally washed the diapers 6 times in hot water..no spin, so the water would stay soaked up in the diapers each time. I use Charlie's Soap. I have a ton of it, but I guess I can switch to see if a different soap would work. I'll try vinegar too. I used to do that, but once they started smelling like ammonia, the vinegar didn't seem to help much. I'll try it again though. Anything at this point! I'm thinking about buying those cloth toddler pull ups..anyone tried them?
