for those who have had a tongue tie snipped...

Ds had a "mild" tt snipped yesterday. He is 11 wks and my nipples were still sore and he had some other symptoms: hoarseness, tongue never touched roof of mouth, tongue never came over bottom lip.

Well, after snipping it yesterday, he's clicking when bf. He is a reflux-y guy but today he spit up more than I've ever seen him do. I have a feeling he's swallowing more air.

Does it take some time for him to "relearn" to nurse with a different feeling tongue?

In our experience, yes, absolutely it does. The LCs we saw advised us that this would be the case, also. We had our LO's tongue tie clipped at three weeks due to significant pain on my part. His weight gain was good, though, so he had obviously figured out a way to make it work. It took several weeks for him to adjust to his "new" tongue and for my pain to decrease.

Thanks so much for your response! Your situation sounds a lot like mine: ds has been gaining just fine, but my nipple pain has just not subsided. My ds, however, was almost 11 wks when we had his TT snipped. I'm encouraged to know that it took a while for you to notice less nipple pain. We had it done last week and the nipple pain is the same. He is still "clicking" with his tongue more when nursing than he did before we had it snipped. He had almost 11 wks with a tight frenulum, so I'm sure it'll take a while to relearn...

It took about a week after the second clip (2 weeks after the first, doc thought he was still pretty tight) before my nipples healed from the bruising and DS really "got it". DS was 8 weeks old when we did the 2nd clip.
