My 6yo ds' earlobes crack and split where they connect to the side of his head. I read that this is associated with eczema, which he's had periodically in the past. He hasn't had any signs of it in several months. The earlobe thing just started a month or two ago. He says it doesn't hurt and won't let me do anything for it, not that I know what I could do. So...is there anything I can do for it? Creams or oils I could apply? Besides diet, anything I could do to prevent it? It's been very dry in the house this winter so I bought a humidifier.
After I posted this I realized there's tons of stuff here on eczema. We've had my ds tested for allergies and the only thing that came up was grass (same thing I'm allergic to). Grass shouldn't be a problem in the winter here. I know that testing doesn't cover everything and he could have a sensitivity rather than a full-blown allergy that would show positive on a test. His diet has not changed from the months and months when he didn't have any flair ups. I think it must be related to the season and dryer air. He never uses soap or shampoo, just water for bathing. No lotions or creams or oils on his skin. We use hypoallergenic laundry detergents and no fabric softners but I do use spot treatment.
