receiving blankets

Thread Starter
I need receiving blankets for my upcoming homebirth and I just hate to buy new ones I know are going to get really stained and used only once or twice (I am due 6/30). I wanted to make some, I have a couple old flannel sheets, but when I put the one receiving blanket I do have on it to cut the right size, I noticed that the blanket is about three times as thick as the sheet. Is there affordable flannel out there that is thick enough to make blankets out of or is it cheaper just to suck it up and buy them? I have already scouted thrift and consignment without much success.

Killington flannel is really nice stuff, I made my dad nightshirts 2 years ago and they are still pretty fluffy. I've found it on sale at JoAnn, but it was just after christmas.

Unless you can get a good deal on flannels, you might just be better off getting a cheap set at kmart or Target.
