newborn makes a LOT of noise

this feels silly to even ask, but i'm a bit freaked out by the demon noises my 2 week old makes. she doesn't cry really ever (except for a few seconds for a diaper change), but she makes the most ridiculous grunting and groaning and squawking noises i've ever heard. trying to get her on the breast sometimes even makes me uncomfortable, because the sounds she makes are so loud and angry sounding... i know in theory that newborns make odd snuffly sorts of sounds, but she is way louder/more violent sounding than any baby i've ever heard. plus her breathing often sounds really laboured and snorty. should i be concerned? my midwife will be here tomorrow, so i'll ask her about the breathing, but the other sounds are stressing me out.

Mine was a 33-week preemie, and in the NICU he was so quiet, so calm.

It was an amazing shock when he came home and turned out to be possessed by a demonic goat of some kind. The bleating! The snorting! The whuffling noises that would have you swearing some cows had broken in to the room!

I vote for "normal". Babies are weird.

Don't feel bad my baby is 3 weeks old and she acts the same way. She has such loud angry crys sometimes. I just hope she's not an angry child when she grows up.

My son was really, really, REALLY noisy when we first brought him home. I thought I was going to be one of those people who was checking the baby constantly to make sure he was still alive, but it turns out there was no need... day and night, he was NOISY.

He sounded really congested all the time until he was maybe two months old-- I asked our doctor about that and he told me something like baby nasal passages are really small or something and if you're concerned you can shoot breastmilk up the baby's nose. (That probably sounds bizarre, and I might be misremembering it, but you get the point... he basically said don't worry about the congested-y sound.)

He also constantly looked and sounded angry when he ate. I would actually sometimes cry looking at him eating, because he seemed so mad. (He had some reflux problems at the beginning, so he between that and the whole being evicted from the uterus thing, I bet he actually was somewhat displeased with me.) I wish I'd photographed it because now people see my kid eating and are like "oh he looks so angelic and happy!" and I just want to be like "ha ha, you should have seen him at two weeks."

That's not to say that there's definitely nothing up with your baby. One of the most important things to know as a new parent is that your baby is YOUR baby-- you and your partner's. You have the closest connection to this little person in the world. No one on the internet (and no meddling friends or in-laws, etcetera) can tell you what's right for your kid.

If YOU feel like something's wrong with your baby, please don't hesitate to contact your care provider. That's what you pay her for! Go ahead and ask your midwife about it... I'm sure she's been around a billion new babies and can tell you whether or not your little person's noises seem to be within the realm of normal.

DS was SOO noisy, at 10 months it has finally calmed down. He snorted all night long while sleeping, while nursing, while pretty much doing anything. It was desperate loud snorts, not little quiet ones. There is nothing wrong with him, just tiny little nasal passages.

My little guy also made loud grunting etc. noises. We called him the little T Rex. He stopped doing it in his sleep at some point and has since added many more sounds etc. to his "vocabulary" . He is still very vocal some times he sings other times he screams really loudly in different tones with a big smile on his face.

I was told by the doctor to look out for trouble breathing. The belly look like it goes up and into the ribs when inhaling and the nose flares.

Congratulations!
