Teething, how long does it last?

DS is 8 months old and has been seriously teething for a week now. Of course, he's been teething off and on for months, but this time it's different. He's cranky / fussy, wants to chew on everything, but he's not drooling as bad as he has in the past, and when I take my finger to rub his gums, which he used to LOVE, suddenly he pushes me away like a knee-jerk reaction, and starts fussing, so I assume his gums hurt. He wants to suck his Binkie a lot more than usual, too. He's also waking up a couple of times at night, doesn't want to eat solids as much, but nurses fine (aside from the gumming). Aside from wet washcloths and cold teething rings, we've used Hyland's Teething Tablets, they seem okay, and given him Tylenol before bed.

It's not so much that I need suggestions for soothing him, though I'll take advice, too, but how long should I expect this stage to last? I haven't seen a tooth, or a bump yet (but he's not really letting me look closely like before); a couple more days? Weeks? Months??? He's happy otherwise and hasn't had a temp, or anything, just "off" from his usual behavior.

Thanks!

My baby started drooling and teething a lot at three months and the first tooth appeared a month later, then the second one within a week or so.
So for my little one, I would say he teethed constantly a month or so before the tooth appeared. Hope that helps, although each baby is different. That has been our experience though.

It varies from baby to baby. My son started at 3 months and two bottom teeth popped through 2 months later.

I swear that the top front teeth are the worst though. The top side ones (ones that frame the top 2) came through MUCH faster, but those 2 front ones took forever. Top front teeth teething is the worst. Don't mean to scare you, that's just my own opinion. Every baby is different!

Thanks. That's just what I needed to hear. I swear something should pop through any day now the way he's acting, but still nothing. I know it's got to be frustrating for him to feel this way. Maybe it's the top two teeth, which is why I can't see it, and why he's so fussy. Is it always the bottom teeth that come in first?

Well my girl is 5 months old...and the last two weeks made me want to cry, for her and myself. I prayed she was teething! And yep she was, the tooth broke through yesterday! It actually lasted a month, but the last two weeks got progressivly worse. And today...she was an angel.

No fever just all around miserable and fussy. I hear they usually get the bottom first and she did! Now I just hope she doesn't think I am for biting lol
