Not even pg yet....

Hubby and I are planning to begin not-preventing not-trying soon. My son was a hospital birth but I really want a homebirth this time around. I live in a somewhat isolated area and it might be a bit hard to find a midwife willing to drive out here - perhaps an hour's drive but more likely two hours. I know it's not that far but I imagine midwives might prefer a local birth when possible vs traveling.

Will a midwife think I'm totally odd for contacting her to see if she'd be willing to travel here when I'm not even pg yet? Depending on things, the next pg might not even be remotely soon since it took nearly 2.5 years to conceive the first - which adds to my thought that I'm being silly for thinking about this already!

I don't see why it should be a problem at all. I mean, you'll have to consider that if it does take a long time to conceive, any mws you speak with now may have moved away or changed their territory--but I see nothing wrong with with asking around. Mws get such calls all the time. Besides, you may find one who is able to help you figure out how to conceive more readily...you never know!

good luck!

Our first was conceived by use of Gonal-F (an injectable fertility med) and IUI. We did charting, OPKs, Preseed, acupuncture, using an Instead cup, blood tests, HSG, SA, natural IUI, clomid+IUI. Unfortunately nothing anyone told me sped up conception of my first - we fell into the unexplained category of infertility.

I'm hoping that this time around will be easier and whatever glitch we had was somehow resolved by being pg once.

I guess the best thing is to just do online research and wait....

I interviewed my midwife (and another) before I was pregnant. I knew we would be trying soon and I wanted to have an idea of who I wanted before I got pregnant. Neither of them had a problem with it.

we had no known fertility issues, but i set up MW interviews before i was pregnant too - they were all great about it! i was able to find some other resources from them before i needed them, and emailed with one a little bit about an early miscarriage.

it's not much of her/their time if you simply do research to find out what MWs might serve your area and talk on the phone to one or two... don't underestimate going with what excites you about looking ahead - could be just what your body needs

s and to you as you consider TTC again!

Well, I told myself I was going to wait but this morning ended up sending out emails to five midwives that might possibly decide to travel out to me. I figured they have the luxury to answer email when they have the time so I won't be inconveniencing them too much.

I got a "no thanks, too far" reply already but it included the name and email of a midwife who lives just 30 minutes away. So I sent out an email to her. I couldn't find a website for her but then I imagine not all midwives maintain one. She might be my best bet. (If I can get pg before she moves or whatnot.)

We haven't started TTC yet and I contacted and interviewed midwives two years ago. We had a c-section with my daughter and I wanted to make sure that a VBAC was an option before we even considered getting pregnant again.

I don't think it's odd at all and if they aren't willing to travel they may be able to connect you with someone who will.

I'm glad the midwife recommended another MW. I hope it works out with her! I know most midwives have someone they can recommend.

The "major midwife" in the Houston area recommended one closer to me, and I'm so thankful she did because I LOVE her!

Some MWs aren't afraid of a drive. There are often MWs who live out in the country (my mom's best friend, who is a MW, live out in the country and, depending on the patient, was willing to drive that far).

McMandy - Some Google-fu revealed that the midwife she recommended was her student at one point.
A few of the midwives I contacted are on the outskirts of the LA area while I am trek down a major freeway. So I imagine quite a few have plenty of business since they are in a metropolitan area.

I had another midwife contact me and say she was willing to travel and a name of another midwife (who I had already emailed) is commonly willing to come out my way as well.

So once I get my BFP, I have at least three options. I'm hoping to really click with the nearby midwife but am glad to have extra choices.

Now I just need to get pg!
