Aborted Fetal Cell Lines and Vaccines?

Thread Starter
It is past 3 am where I am, so I haven't had much chance to research this, and probably won't tomorrow either. Since I know you ladies (and a few dads out there) know a lot about vaccines and vaccine history, I was hoping you would be able to point me in the right direction.

Someone mentioned on another forum that they are morally against some vaccines because of their use of aborted fetal cell lines. I looked up an article and the most unbiased thing I could find was this one: http://autism.about.com/od/medicalis...f/vaxfetal.htm but I don't know how unbiased it really is. Vaccines and abortion are two really hot button topics after all!

I guess what I really want to know is whether there are any vaccines on the market today that do for sure use aborted fetal cell lines, and if so, where do you find out which ones?

Thanks for any help y'all can provide!

This article explains which vaccines contain aborted fetal cell lines: http://www.vaccineriskawareness.com/...-And-Abortion-

MRC-5 is the name of an aborted fetal cell line that is listed as an ingredient in vaccines according to CDC's web site: http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/pubs/pin...nt-table-2.pdf

I thought that I also saw WI-38 listed as an ingredient in the past but I don't see it there now.

I was reading in one of Paul Offit's books that a Swedish woman had an abortion back in the 1960s, and the cell lines used in the MMR vaccine today come from the tissue of her aborted offspring. So I don't believe that it's a regular practice to use fetal tissue in the manufacturing of vaccines.

I'm sure this isn't any semblance of an unbiased link, but it goes into more detail on the subject:

http://www.catholiceducation.org/art...cs/me0044.html

MRC-5 is an ingredient in the chickenpox and shingles vaccine. MRC-5 came from a 14 week old. The MRC part is from the Medical Research Council (a British research tank).

According to Coriell Cell Repositories, "The MRC-5 cell line was developed in September 1966 from lung tissue taken from a 14-week fetus aborted for psychiatric reasons from a 27-year-old physically healthy woman."

"Development of the rubella vaccine actually involved not one, but 28 abortions. Twenty-seven abortions were performed to isolate the virus and one abortion (WI-38) to culture the vaccine. The vaccine's strain is called RA 27/3 (R=Rubella, A=Abortus, 27=27th fetus tested, 3=3rd tissue explanted). "

I saved this after seeing it on MDC a long time ago. I don't know who originally compiled it or if it needs to be updated:

A "quick list" of the routinely recommended vaccines containing aborted fetal tissue:

Vaqta/Havrix (Hepatitis A)
Twinrix (Hep A/Hep B)
M-M-R-II (MMR)
ProQuad (MMR + chicken pox)
Varivax (chicken pox)
Zostavax (shingles)

eta: if you edit according to the link:

Imovax (rabies)
Meruvax II (rubella)

Oh, also, this might be more time consuming but simply going through each insert will allow you to verify for yourself which vaccines do or do not use human cells/blood:

http://www.vaccinesafety.edu/package_inserts.htm

Just click on the vaccine and it will redirect you to the manufacturer insert. There you can read how the vaccine is manufactured. (Aka things such as "cultured on human diploid tissue" or "grown with human albumin."

I like the table here, which also lists alternate vaxes without them (if available):
