PL, public toilets and utc in 3 yo question.

3 yo dd is in the process of pl. She is pretty good with her pee in the toilet. She was/is afraid of public toilet flushes but, has hesitantly gone a handful of times at her toddler prog. I have encouraged her to see other older toddlers going to the bathroom. Now, since Wed morning she has complained of pain. After that one time on Wed morn she was perfectly ok until Thu evening. Then, we started her on cranberry juice. Again after that one complaint she was peeing fine (but since Thu only in pull-ups) and no complaints until this morn. We are scheduled to see her doc in an hrs time. She most probably has UTI and my question is what do we do to prevent contracting UTI from public toilets. Am willing to hinder her PL and use pull-ups when we are out, however, she is not going to be in diapers forever. We are also wanting to put her in daycare a couple of days part-time. She imitates v. quickly, that's how I got her to go to her toddler prog. toilet. I am wondering if anyone uses hand-sanitizer on the toilet seat and if it has worked??

TIA.

UTI's come from public toilets? How? Aren't you still helping her wipe?

Umm yeah... I'm not grasping how you would contract a UTI from a public toilet??

Urinary tract infections are not passed from person to person and you would not get it from a toilet. I would check to see if wiping is being done correctly, make sure she drinks enough fluids each day, and remove any type of irritants such as laundry soap/bath products, etc. If seems to have UTIs often then a trip to your ped is recommended.

My son will only use the toilet at home or at a close relatives house because he dislikes public restrooms. I do too.

Thanks Lilypie. I thought they can contract it from unclean toilet seats. I am always freaking out about those toilet seats.

I was reading up online about it. Seems like they can get it from holding it in which she does a lot. She has peed independently and cleaned herself a couple of times before I could realize she was in the toilet. But, it has been a few weeks since she did that.

She is fine again and is running around doing her thing. So, we have moved the dr's appt to tomorrow and also because I am v. sick today myself.
