what can I do for DD's cough? I think she getting that annoying tickle in your throat that makes you cough every 10 min. She's having the hardest time napping and sleeping at night because this cough wakes her up and her nose is congested. We are currently doing a bunch of herbal syrups but I need something to soothe her throat to prevent the tickle sensation. A humidifier doesn't seem to be helping. She 20 months so she can't really suck on a lozenge. Any ideas???

Popcicles and ice cream--the cold numbs the nerve.

Honey. Studies of honey as a cough remedy for toddlers have found it to be effective. Buckwheat or Manuka are probably the best choice, but an honey will do in a pinch. There are some honey based homeopathic remedies for cough and cold that are mentioned at the link.

Kefir--thick liquids coat the throat

Elderberry syrup or juice.

If the cough persists and is dry as well as nocturnal, that is often associated with allergies or asthma and bears a consult with a ped.

We are kind of in a similar boat. DD has been sick almost continuously since mid-Jan. It's looking like asthma.

Hope your LO feels better.

I talked to a nurse today about DS's cough. She said to try alternating heat and cold, as in keep him in a steamy bathroom for about 20 minutes, then have him stand in front of the open freezer, or take him outside for a bit. He has more of a dry, hacking cough than a tickle, but it still might help your LO.
