PLing advice needed for 30-month-old girl

DD pees on the potty chair about 1-2 times daily; this has been her own doing. During the day, we use fitteds, prefolds, AIOs, or pockets, and sposies at night. She frequently takes her diaper and pants off and goes around the house naked, so I'm thinking about letting her run around naked at home all the time to help her PL and then putting her in cloth trainers when we're out and about. What do you think? Any other tips/advice is welcome! TIA!

Oh, and if anyone could give me specifics on the naked PLing method, I'd appreciate it1

That'd help her get on the potty quicker, certainly. It'd also help you see when she pees so you could start suggesting the potty to her at other times. Since she's been in diapers all along, are you going to be able to handle puddles?

Tips on the naked PL-ing method:

1. Pee is sterile.
2. Bac-out cleans both pee and poop out of carpet quickly and easily and leaves a fresh scent behind.
4. Prefolds are great for mopping puddles off hard floors.
3. The backyard is a perfectly acceptable place to pee.

!!

Ok, seriously...

The idea of naked PL'ing is twofold. First, it makes the toddler VERY aware of when she's peeing. Second, it makes it easier for her to get to the potty, because she doesn't have to deal with pulling her clothes down and up. How do you do it? Just like it sounds. Get a LOT of potties if you don't already have them--one in every bathroom and one in the playroom, at least. That will help minimize the problem of not wanting to leave playing in order to go pee. Pull up or cover the carpet if you feel that's necessary for your sanity. Then go for it. Make sure she's drinking plenty of water so she has plenty of opportunities. When she pees on the floor, tell her gently that pee goes in the potty, and have her practice sitting on the potty. Invite her to help you clean up the puddle (but don't force her, of course). If you want, you can make a game out of practicing getting to the potty in time. Talk to her about how her body feels just before she pees--notice that uncomfortable feeling? that means you need to pee. Expect it to take a while. Her whole life she's been expected to go in her diaper, so it may take a while for her to change that expectation. And...just don't be afraid of pee. It really is sterile, and it's not that big a deal to clean it up. I mean, you're used to washing cloth diapers, so it's not that different to mop it up with a prefold and then wash the prefold. Way easier than changing a diaper on a squirmy toddler, actually! Poop of course is not so pleasant to clean off the floor, but honestly, I think it's easier to clean up a poop pile than to scrape off a poopy toddler bum. The key with poop is to keep a close eye on her so you know when it happens and can clean it up before she decides to explore it.

there were many months where my DS would pee in the potty if he had no diaper on- but put ANYTHING on there- diaper, undies, pants- he'd just pee in them. I don't quite know why, because it was definitely more that just "its quicker when naked". It was like the sensation of having something there just let him relax and pee... at the time I always thought that stage would have been easier w/ a girl b/c she could just wear dresses. (Now I have a 10mo DD so we'll see- so far she goes only on timing and I don't do much with dresses since it trips her up)

Good luck! You might try a 2-3 hours in the morning pantsless every day, and increase the time as it seems to work for her. Then go to pantsless always at home, and then work out out-and-about last. That is what we did and it was pretty painless. DS was about a year younger, but still, it was maybe 4m until he was out of diapers all together- so, it might just take a week or two (or it might take a few months, who knows). While at home, offer the potty at regular intervals, and also every time you are about to leave the house, when you arrive at a new place, when you leave to go home, when you return to the house, etc.
