I'm on PG #3 and have never had any blood sugar issues. I also have no risk factors except that I am over 25 (11 years over 25, but I digress). I got a letter today that says that I failed the 1 hour glucose test and now I'm supposed to go on a high carb diet before the 3 hr fasting test.
The diet lasts for 3 days and involves way more sugar than I normally consume. I would just go ahead and do it in the interest of science and my baby (although I am not totally sold on GD and its risks) but I know that eating that much sugar will really take its toll. I'm already homeschooling my 5 year old while trying to entertain my 2.5 yo who also still gets up multiple times per night (and, yes, I'm also 6 mos. pg). DH works 12 hr days and I can't handle the thought of feeling that yucky from a poor diet for 3 days.
Anyway, I'm wondering if this mass sugar consumption is somehow gearing my body up for the glucose or if they are instead looking for a carryover from the 3 day sugar binge. I'm rather proud of my v. healthy diet and imagine that I'd go back on something exactly like what I'm doing now if its found that I do have GD.
I haven't been able to find anything online about a high carb diet before the 3 hr test. I'd love it if someone could explain to me the point of all this!
