high carb diet before 3 hr glucose test?

I'm on PG #3 and have never had any blood sugar issues. I also have no risk factors except that I am over 25 (11 years over 25, but I digress). I got a letter today that says that I failed the 1 hour glucose test and now I'm supposed to go on a high carb diet before the 3 hr fasting test.

The diet lasts for 3 days and involves way more sugar than I normally consume. I would just go ahead and do it in the interest of science and my baby (although I am not totally sold on GD and its risks) but I know that eating that much sugar will really take its toll. I'm already homeschooling my 5 year old while trying to entertain my 2.5 yo who also still gets up multiple times per night (and, yes, I'm also 6 mos. pg). DH works 12 hr days and I can't handle the thought of feeling that yucky from a poor diet for 3 days.

Anyway, I'm wondering if this mass sugar consumption is somehow gearing my body up for the glucose or if they are instead looking for a carryover from the 3 day sugar binge. I'm rather proud of my v. healthy diet and imagine that I'd go back on something exactly like what I'm doing now if its found that I do have GD.

I haven't been able to find anything online about a high carb diet before the 3 hr test. I'd love it if someone could explain to me the point of all this!

I'd really look into this.

I failed the one-hour test after "carb-loading" the night before. Several friends told me it was the thing to do, and now I smack myself for listening to them. I'm not a big carb person...especially not the simple carbs I ate that night, and the next morning I failed the 1-hour test miserably. I think my body was still recovering from all the carbs from the night before, and the sugar syrup drink put me over the top. ugh...I felt so ill through all of it!

If you're a healthy eater, does your body stress out more when you carb load? That's something I've always wondered. The sugar syrup, the high-carb diet....it's all totally alien to my body. I feel like THAT's part of the reason I failed it.

Hopefully some of the more experienced mamas here will have some advice for you!

Hi,
I can relate. I was told not to fast or worry about food at all before the one hour, so right before I went in I had some pb crackers and yogurt, then the guy told me I wasn't supposed to eat anything. I failed it by 4 points and have to do the 3 day carb diet this week. I never eat sugar either and I am thin. Honestly I think they should give you less of that syrup crap if you weigh less, but I digress. My 3 day diet is not too sugary though, just a lot of carbs which I will make all whole-grain to get through it. When I looked at it, I was not sure how I would eat that much bread. I am more of a green vegetable, nut and legume kind of gal. But there are some equivalencies like 1/2 oatmeal, 1/2 c oj, 1/2 c yogurt.
Not sure I'm really adding, but def. sympathizing.
