What am I missing?

I'm planning on cding #2 when she arrives in June and I'm new to this. So far I have:

24 newborn prefolds
24 infant prefolds
4 Snappis
1 Booroi cover-small
1 Thirsties Duo cover-size one
1 Blueberry OS cover-small
2 Bummis superbrights-newborn
1 Bummis Super Whisper wrap-newborn
1 diaper pail
1 pail liner

Is there anything important I'm missing or that I don't have enough of? If I plan on washing every other day I should be ok with 24 prefolds right?

ETA: I now have a size newborn wool soaker as well. I have no idea if it's going to fit right away or not but I found it on Etsy and it was way too cute to pass up.

It lookslike you need one more pail liner. There are always diapers that are dirtied while the rest are washing. Six covers should be plenty of they all fit...sometimes the size smalls are too big for a newborn.

I think 24 diapers is too few for a newborn, but you should be able to suppliment with the infant size with some creative folding.

Are you using cloth wipes?

I ended up with over 60 baby washcloths at my shower for DS and I've still got 24 that have never come out of the packaging. I was planning on using those as wipes.

I'm preparing for another tiny baby (DS was 5lbs 12oz at 39w) so maybe I should add another dozen newborn prefolds just in case. Maybe one or two more of the newborn covers?

I'd definitely want 2 pail liners, as a pp suggested. I'd probably want more pf's if washing every other day, maybe another dozen, and then you can use them as doublers for when your baby is bigger and needs a little more absorbancy. A few more covers would probably be a good idea, just for the newborn phase because newborn poo is messy and happens frequently. I always liked having some inexpensive covers around for back-up, like dappi nylon pants or bummis whisper pants (these are pull-on style). I actually started to like those better than wrap-style covers!!

I'm sure you'll have enough wipes. I use baby washcloths too and I like them. Do you want to use a wipe solution, or just water? I really like California Baby Diaper Area Wash to spray on the wet wipe or the baby's bum. Seems to get baby nice and clean and keeps rashes away.

What about a wetbag, for when you're out and about? I have 2, in case I have to go somewhere while the other is dirty or being washed/dried. But 1 would be ok, too.

Is one preferable to the other? I still have to figure out how I'm going to store cloth wipes on the change table.

So after a night of Etsy and Ebay shopping I've added a second pail liner, a medium wet bag and a small wet bag that is supposed to be a good size to carry cloth wipes when we're out. I sewed the prefolds myself from old receiving blankets so I can whip up another dozen of each fairly easily.

I still have to research what I'm supposed to do with my wool cover once it gets here.

Now I'm onto diaper cream. Is there any particular brand that's good for cloth?

I think California Baby makes a diaper cream that is not oil-based for using with cloth diapers. That being said, I have never had a problem using oil-based creams with my prefolds. I think the key is that I don't need to use cream that often, since diaper rash has been very scarce. I use both Weleda diaper cream, and an olive-oil calendula salve that I made myself.

Your wool cover is probably going to have to be lanolised when you get it.

Personally I don't use a pail liner, but I do use a wet bag in the diaper bag.

As for the number, 24 should be fine if you're okay with doing laundry every 36 hours or so... I did laundry daily with my NB because I only had about 12 dipes (and 1 cover), and I didn't consider it to be that big of a deal.

As for creams - I'm not sure why everybody asks about this... I've never needed one for my 5 mo. I use powder from time to time (talc and cornstarch-free), but have never needed a cream.

And a little known fact about wool - you do not have to lanolize it, it will still work. It won't be as effective, but it'll work. Half my wool stash has never been lanolized. And I get lanolin at the local CVS, although I prefer liquid lanolin which I can only get online.

For cloth wipes, this time around I bought the prince lionheart cloth wipes warmer.. they have a specific model for cloth wipes.. what I liked about it is the antimicrobial aspects.. I haven't used it yet, (my babe is also due in June), but it might be something you want to consider.. if you don't want to use a warmer, there are some foams you can buy.. I think northern essence has one.. so you can just spray each wipe before use.. and keep them (dry) in a basket before use.

for diaper creme I LOVE baby bottom better. I used to have to special order it from Canada, and then a local retailer started selling it.. unfortunately she closed up shop this month to sahm.. I bought out the last few she had.. Anyway, they are petroleum free and just worked like magic with my other kids. Comes in a metal tin with a teddy bear on the front. I kept a "sampler" size in the diaper bag and the bigger one with the diapers.. lasts a LONG time, too. When we would run low, dp would remind me to put in an order- he loved it too (and yes, he changes LOTS of cds!)

For wipes, it's really a preference thing. Some people find that water and a soft wipe get the child clean, but others need more. I find that I like to wipe the baby with a warm, wet wash cloth to do the main job, and once there is no visible poo I spray with California Baby Diaper Area Wash and wipe it again with another wet wipe. It works great. I keep my wipes and spray in a little basket in my changing area. When I need to use a wipe I just wet it with warm water at the sink. If that's convenient for you, you could keep some warm water in a Thermos pump pot, or you could use a wipes warmer to keep your wipes.

For diaper cream, I really like California baby and Weleda Calendula cream. Both are safe for cotton diapers, both work very nicely, and they both smell good

you will probably only need 2 snappi. I bought 2 but have only used one, other still in it's package. Since you are doing all prefolds, you can just re-use the same one over and over and is almost impossible to misplace. i think people that use several different types of diapers might like to have more snappies as it would be easier to leave one at home or in the diaper bag. The only reason I recommend 2 is incase one breaks. I've heard of some using the toddler size to make the prefold last longer. my dd is starting to outgrew her newborn prefold in width not length and I do wish I had the toddler size and will probably buy on my next diaper purchase.

I got by with 12 newborn (gmd orange) and 24 infant prefold (yellow) and dd was around 6lb in the beginning

while the newborn size fit perfectly from the beginning, the infants weren't that bad and started to fit great by 4w.

just want to give a shout out for mothersease diaper covers. for sure get the newborn size, my dd is 8w and still not close to outgrowing them.
