gastrointestinal problems with my daughter

So, my mom has been admitted to the hospital for c. diff. My dad is in a nursing home right now, after suffering a stroke 5 weeks ago.

My daughter has been in this nursing home, and around my mom, and in a variety of hospital settings for about a month.

Around 3 AM on Friday morning she started complaining that her stomach hurt badly, and then she threw up until about 11 AM, until it was just bile. She's 6 years old and has never thrown up like that before. I took her to the ER since we were already in the hospital with my mom, and they checked her for appendicitis. I immediately mentioned that my mom was being screened for c. diff (we didn't know for sure that she had it at the time). She had pain the right quadrant, as well as central. Her white blood cell count came back normal, urine was normal, and the ultrasound did not show any sign of inflammation. She did not have a fever or diarreaha. They did not take a stool sample and totally dismissed any conjecture that this might be c. diff., I guess because she hasn't had diarreaha or been on antibiotics. They discharged us around 3 or 4 PM, and I gave her one and a half popsicles and some juice throughout the rest of the day/evening. She still said her stomach hurt a little bit.

Today, she is still complaining of stomach ache, has little to no appetite, and has a fever. When I press on her belly the pain seems to shift around, and is not necessarily in the right quadrant. She has not thrown up since yesterday morning, and had one normal looking BM last night, and one normal looking BM tonight. But, there's that pain in her belly and lack of appetite, and lack of energy. She also says she is dizzy.

Does this sound like appendicitis? C. diff? Other? I guess I am thinking I need to take her in again in the morning if this does not improve.

Did I mention that everything really sucks right now?

My daughter has eaten one pancake today, and she's had some water. She no longer has a fever, but she says her stomach still hurts a little. No diarrhea, and no excruciating belly pain.

Anyone have any advice for me?

I am trying to take care of three sick people right now, the three people whom I love the most in the world.

So sorry you are dealing with this. We just had a stomach flu at our house that sounds a lot like this what your daughter went through. I would just make sure she gets a lot of rest and fluids and monitor her for a few days. Good luck.

Be sure to rest. Sounds like your dd has a stomach bug, not C-diff. ((hugs))

I think it sounds like the 24 hour stomach flu that is going around. DH and DD both had it recently. I know that when everyone around you is sick with something serious its hard not to think the worst but EVERYTHING had checked out with her: bloodwork, ultrasound, etc. And to me there seems nothing suggestive of anything other than a stomach bug.

Sounds like a viral bug to me too. She really isn't at risk of c. diff w/out being on antibiotics. Just to reassure yourself though it won't hurt a thing for all of you to take probiotics right now. Florastor is always a great choice! I load us up when we're going to the hospital just because my son did pick up c. diff w/out being on a predisposing antibiotic (but he had other complicating stuff going on that explains it).

Thanks everyone. She's had a cup of my chicken soup, and about 1/3 cup of white rice, since the pancake. And she's been drinking more water.

Now I just have to figure out how to get out of here for a bit to buy some kombucha and kefir for my mom, kombucha for dad, and get it them at some point today. They need some of my chicken stock, too.
