The love your body the way it is workout

Ok so I've posted on here for a while now, and I'm seriously in to fitness. I went from over 200 pounds post pardum, dumpy and sad, to an energetic health and fitness freak. No I don't starve, I don't follow crazy diets, I don't live in a gym.

There are so many different fitness philosophies, all of us eat different, etc. But most woman want the same darned thing: a beautiful butt!!! So I thought maybe we could start a discussion of how to get one. What are you doing? Do you workout? Lift weights? Are you a cardio freak? Do you love what you're doing, dread what your doing now exercise wise?

Because I think you can have it all. If you are motivated to be fit, and want to love working out, or if you already do there is a way.

SO while I'm seriously in to fitness, I realize it is NOT one size fits all. Some of us love to run up hills until we wanna pass out, some of us like gentle yoga. I like to mix things up and never be bored, and I only go inside a gym 2 days a week, 3 if I want. I get my kids involved and make it short, challenging and as fun as such a thing could be. And of course my diet is superb.

So here's my workout (I did this today). I have haulted the super heavy and hard, because I am giving my back a rest, so I'm doing fast circuits, that leave me drenched in sweat and crawling to my car:

Walking lunges (adjust weight accordingly) 60 pound barbell, 3 lengths of gym. This is FAR, I have only recently been able to make this far, 10 steps each side is a good start

Superset this with box jumps, basically you just jump up and off a box, or you could do jump squats or speed rope 3 sets

Next superset is squats/deads
I do 20 rep squats with 135, I started with probably 45 at first LOL

Then romanian dumbell deadlifts with dumbells (I use 50 pound dumbells, you want something heavy enough to make it hard to get 12-15 reps) 3 sets of this superset (or 4 if more advanced)

Next sumo squats holding a dumbell. Take a wide stance, toes turned out a little, and hold a dumbel or a light barbell and do deep squats, 15 reps

superset these with one legged split squats with weights. basically a squat with one leg behind on a bench so you'r squating with one leg.

I work shoulders on the same day i do legs also, but this is a really killer butt workout.

I work my butt/legs hard once a week, sometimes twice, and I focus on the butt a lot.

Anyone have any good workouts to share?

I think the best way to build sexy feminine muscle tone is to WORK your muscles, lift weights!! 2 days a week, or 3. Raise your metabolism, eat well and melt just the right amount of fat to show off your luscious curves and SHELF of a booty

ETA: I changed the title to accomodate anyone who wants help or to discuss how to maintain/develop a nice figure. Love your big booty, small booty, whatever booty you were given. Whatever your genes, or goals, figure out how to get there!

I'll play! My routine is similar to yours! This is a fairly standard weight routine for me. I usually do 3 sets of 6-10:

chinups
pushups
jump squats holding 2 25 lb dumbells
shoulder presses with 30 pound dumbells
barbell squats with 120 pounds (just started doing these about a month ago, still working my weight up)
romanian split barbell squats with same weight
leg presses 185 lbs
back extensions with 35 lb weight plate
walking lunges with 2 35 pound plates
bench press 70 lbs
bent over row, 90 pound barbell or one armed with 45 lb dumbell
lat pulldowns 110 lbs
bicep curls with 50 lb barbell
planks, side planks
crunches, sets of 25-30
hanging leg raises
lots of other core exercises I don't know the names of, lol. I'm a swimmer so I really focus on my obliques and lower abs, they help power my kick.

There's some others I mix in but those are my standbys.

I run 3 times a week: one long run (currently 10 miles), one mid distance tempo run, and one HIIT/fartlek/interval run. I swim 1-2 times a week, spin or bike 2-3 times a week. I'm a busy lady!

SHeesh mama your strong! I love to do a hard back workout, shoulders and legs. Of course I do something for my whole body, but I especially like shoulders/back and legs.

Barbell squats kick butt, and build a good butt! I start squats at 135, and I was going up to 185, but I am only doing higher rep squats right now to ease up the weight on my spine for a few weeks. I kept feeling a twinge here and there, and I am NOT about to have back pain. I am pretty sure I started way less than you lol.

That reminds me of leg press after you mentioned it. I have been supplimenting heavy squats with heavy leg press. I'm up to 3 plates on each side and a 25 for the last set. I usually do a huge range of set/reps for legs/glutes to get them from every angle. The leg press I pyramid from 15 reps down to maybe 6, then back up again.

I realize some woman are and would rather be very thin, elegant lanky looking, but it does not suit me and I couldn't be very thin if I tried. My legs have always been built different so i figure if I cannot have those pretty ballerina legs I might as well build them with muscle so they don't jiggle LOL.

Surprisingly I have a body type that looks lean and lanky when it's muscular. I never knew until I lost all the weight (always thought I was big boned/large framed, nope I was just fat), I have the 'long and lean' look that women are always going for, and I get it by lifting heavy. It's genetics. I have long, thin bones and am tall, therefore my muscles are longer. You can't change the length of your muscles, because it is dependent on the length of your bones! I have an acquaintence that does the same workout as me and looks more compact and 'bulky' because she's shorter with shorter limbs. She'd have to diet down to an unnaturally low weight and stop working out to look lanky, and that would just be dumb. It's genes. I wish people understood that. No matter how you work out, you're going to have the body type your genes dictate. They're ALL beautiful! And being strong is so wonderful, I have a very physically demanding job (massage therapist) and can outperform my younger (and male!) coworkers. Plus everything is easier, cleaning, carrying grocery bags, picking up my kids, etc. I move through my daily life with greater ease and grace.

(PS: lisamarie, I know I'm not telling you anything you don't already know, more posting for the other people reading, lol)

Yeah I hear yea, maybe I shoudl change the title to love your booty the way it is LOL.

My point is kind of that. I am NOT long and lanky, though I used to wish I had very thin legs. Like long slender elegant legs. Well, first I'im barely 5'5, and even as a young child I was a figure skater and had bigger legs. Ive just realized you have to workout, and what happens to your shape you are right, it is the way you are built.

While I don't think it's the healthiest to be extremely overweight, I know several very healthy happy people who just don't care if they lose that last 10 or pounds. I have a cousin who does yoga, exercises and is pretty busy with the kids, but just doesn't want to diet, so be it! She's super cute and doesn't care that she is not super thin.

I think loving your body is the first step, but there's nothing wrong with loving to be fit either. I love the mental challenge, and being strong enough to hall my two kids from the car still one in each arm, or up the stairs to bed.

I think a lot of woman are scared to start working out because they either don't want to get bulky (which doesn't happen), don't knwo where to start or are intimidated to walk in a gym.

I started practicing yoga again, and I think my strength/stability has increased a little

So, Lisa, I keep checking to see if you've started that blog yet? Any plans?

And I'm at the workout you consider to be light and easy. What do you do when you want to clean behind the refrigerator, lift it up and hold it out of the way while you sweep?

I :heart my body! My butt suspiciously went missing after baby #1 as when I lost the weight it went from there and just now after baby #3 am I now bootylicious again~ I am naturally hourglass shaped. My big things I like working on are my arms! I want to get back to that "hey you have nice arms" figure. I don't care to get my legs super skinny as for me that means the rest of me is teeny tiny as long as they are not all cellulitely I am good.
