Very interesting. Was just reading in Mothering how people without insurance have less c-sections. Wonder if this is also at play in Tuba City. I've been there. It's a pretty desolate little town, but it seems they are far wiser than much of the rest of our country!

The insurance issue would be very different here, I think, because it's a tribal hospital that's part funded by the IHS. The doctors are salaried, so they're insulated from insurance billing. If Medicaid helps pay for things (as well as the IHS and tribal funding) they don't have to know or care. It's more like a military hospital or the VA in that respect.
