12 day old baby, at first she was sleeping all day and waking every hour at night, so I started trying to wake her about every 2 hrs during the day to be awake and try and nurse. Now she's been going 2-2.5 hrs at night. BUT last 2 nights has had about a 1.5 hr awake time like at 3am! She never stays awake that long in the day. Is it just a phase, or is it because I wake her so often during the day, she's never rested enough to stay awake?

Newborn more awake at night than day

Most babies have their days and nights mixed up. We have to help them straighten them out. Starting at around 7PM, make it night in your home. Dim the lights and don't speak or speak in hushed tones. Hold her, rock her, etc., but don't play with baby or make eye contact (this is hard to do, I know, but eye contact is like a shot of espresso for a baby). Basically do not do anything stimulating. In the morning, make the house daytime by turning on the lights and opening the blinds (even when she is napping). Play with her and stimulate her when she is awake. After you do this for awhile, she will get her days and nights straightened out. Good luck!
