Engorgement- to pump or not to pump?

My baby is 12 days old and I'm getting really engorged. I think it's because she is moving from waking every hour at night to every 2 or 2.5 hours. Anyway, I keep thinking it's best to not pump and just let my supply sort itself out, right? Because if I pump, it will think it's supposed to keep making that much....right? She's coughing and spluttering most feeds cause there's so much, but I figure in a couple days I'll be making the right amount. Am I right or wrong on this?

I think you're on the right track. Pumping says "Make More Milk" to your body. Not something you want to do right now.

If you feel pain from engorgement, you may want to hand express a little just to relieve the pressure/avoid plugged ducts/mastitis.
