Is this the beginning of SPD, and can those of you that have BTDT offer advice?

This is new for me. I have had two other children and not a lick of pubic bone pain. With my last kids I ran 3 miles a few times a week, I ran stairs, I maintained a heavy weight lifting schedule, I could roll over, jump around, anything....until the day until I had them. I had some hip pain, but felt very durable and had two great healthy kids. This is my third and I expected the same thing....I kept up my normal routine, and around 24w or so I would notice, after a few days of hard workouts, a bit of soreness (not bad) directly in the center of my pubic bone. I would go easy a couple days, and it was gone. It got more frequent. Now at 28w it is killing me. I had little to no pain 3-4 days ago, did a couple workouts but nothing insane, and yesterday it felt like my pubic bone was spliting in two. I could not stand on one leg to put my pants on. Rolling over hurt. Trying to get out of bed holding a sleeping toddler hurt. Standing up hurt. Getting out of bed this morning hurts. And it is JUST right in the middle of my pubic bone.

I have been monitoring what bugs it....things like squats of any kind don't bother it at all, but lunges....bad news. Doing things at the gym like the elliptical, doesnt hurt. Running, even a slow trot, ouch.

My plan is to go easy as far as lower body activity the nexy couple days and hope the pain dissipates like it has thus far (though this is the worse it has been for sure). From there I will just have to be done running and lunging and jumping until baby comes, so I can adjust my workouts and life accordingly.

But I am worried that even with that it will get worse in this home stretch.

-Is this similar to SPD?
-If I can get it calmed down and adjust my routine, is it possible to keep it from regularly flaring up?
-Is there anything else I cam do to help? (No good chiros around here....and my insurance has a $50 copay each time I go, so not sure that is a top choice for me, although I would hit the road a few times if it would help)

Any other advice would be wonderful. I feel great except for this and it is really horribly painful.

I've been diagnosed with SPD and had very similar symptoms to yours. One month I was working out regularly, cleaning the house and cooking, and able to roll around in bed with no problem. The next month I couldn't roll over without pain, couldn't stand for long periods, and FORGET about walking for any length of time. And my pain was definitely in my pubic bone - right in the middle. I also had low back pain/spasm and knots in my glutes from some piriformus problems.

I've been seeing a physical therapist and doing some back strengthening exericse that I found here: http://www.thefreelibrary.com/Manage.....-a0140143602 (sorry about the huge link!) as well as "supermans" (on hands and knees, raising one arm at a time) and push ups on knees.

I've also been seeing a massage therapist to work my piriformis. I'm scheduled to see a chiropractor next week. I'm doing a lot to manage this because I'm currently extremely limited in what I can do right now - very little cooking, cleaning, exercise (other than water walking and some swimming), etc. I'm in a lot of pain most days even with treatment, so I'm kind of hoping for a miracle. My understanding is that not everyone has it this bad, so I hope that's the case for you.

Good luck!

Classical Stretch dvds have made a huge, HUGE difference. It was practically debilitating with my last pregnancy but after a CS session I feel like a completely different person. The groin stretches are superb!

It definitely sounds like you have SPD. Sorry! I have it too, and this is my third pregnancy--it has gotten a bit worse each time. This time, I feel as if I can do very little activity without making it worse. I do go to the chiro and this is the only thing that helps so far (other than the typical advice of keeping your legs together when rolling in bed, getting into car, not pushing anything with one foot, etc.).

I would spend the money on a good chiropracter that knows how to adjust for SPD, if I were you! It absolutely helps!

THanks for all of the advice. It has just declined in the last week. There is no chiro option that are really SPD knowledgable in my area, but I am working on finding one that can still get me some relief.
