Please critique my stash! What else do I need?

Hi everybody!
I am planning to CD from the start. This is my first baby and my only experience with CDing was with a cousin who was born when I was 6.5 years old, so I helped diaper her with plain old flannel flats and pins and if I could do it when I was 6.5 I figure I can do it with my babe what's out there now, no prob!
So,I don't know if I want to get almost all the dipes now or wait and see what I like best and make the hubby go for a diaper run, he will be home for at least a week and we are literally down the street from a fantastic (but expensive) baby shop. I do think we have enough that we could make due. We have a washer/dryer in the house so not too big of a deal. I do plan on for sure buying more as the baby grows, and I am out and about more, though.

Here it goes:

covers:
small aristocrat wool soaker
small rainbow coloured wool soaker (doesn't look very thick, only one layer, looks hand made but it's called a soaker!)
x-sm motherease airflow
4 @ sm covers- 2 bummis, 1 motherease, 1 kushies (will I be able to use sm on my nb?)

prefolds:
6 @ unbleached cotton (indian?) prefolds (o/s? premium?)
19 @ kushies flannel prefolds (o/s? premium?) *I want to use these as burp cloths as well, can I use as both or do I have to put some aside?*
1@ sz sm turn an new leaf hemp
2@ snappies (they don't seem to work with the flannels though)

fitteds:
3@ sz 1 bumboo (each comes with a separate doubler)

AIO/OS
3@ bamboo baby by Dri Line (attached doubler)
2@ goodmama (snap in doubler-actually not sure if these are AIO or need covers)

doublers:
1@ o/s hemp babies
1@ sz sm turn a new leaf hemp

other things I have:
1 pkg kushies liners (will these keep meconium from sticking and staining?)
36 sm. terry face cloths for wipes (may keep some as face cloths if I have too many?)
sample size wipe solution (may mix my own with tea tree?)
warmer (IMHO not silly in Canada, I'd warm up my TP if I could)
WOW wool wash
Lanolin- can't remember what kind

today I am going to look at change tables (or convertible cabinets) at IKEA
I know I need some wet bags, and I want to get 2 liners instead of pails.

Hints, tips, opinions, thoughts, anything I have to buy?!
Thanks!!

Think you need more newborn or xs covers, smalls are really too big until 12 lbs or so. Motherease are good.

You need more prefolds. Kushies flannel are not very absorbent, you need more of the indian kind, about 24 infant size.

if the goodmama says ONE on it it is an AIO, otherwise you need a cover.

could I just add doublers for the kushies prefolds? I don't especially want to spend too much money on the infant/xs sized things since they will only be in use for a couple of months. It's expensive around here for good prefolds- I spent $22 for the 6.

also, are the wool soakers (I think sm is the smallest available) going to be okay for a NB? are babies ever allergic to wool? I'd rather buy another aristocrat or a snap on merino cover (can't remember the brand) if wool will be okay since they are sized more generously.

I will look at buying a couple more Motherease xs for sure they seem soft and comparatively inexpensive.

You probably can use doublers with the flannel prefolds, but I was really thankful I had the nb size of prefolds at first. I actually use the nb size for a month, then the infant size until we reached 15 lbs, then switched to regular size. And I'm so glad I did just to have diapers that fit better. You might try pricing prefolds online. $22 for 6 seems pretty pricey.

Ditto more nb size covers. You should be fine with wool. I don't think it's that common to be allergic, and you could probably sell them if they don't work for you. You might try a different brand of cover, too. Many people love ME, but Thirsties fit a lot better for us than ME. I love Thirsties Duo Wraps.

Since the snappis don't work well with flannel, you might want to get a set or two of diaper pins.

The only other thing I thought of is diaper safe cream, like Earth Mama Angel Baby Bottom Butter or something like that.

Good luck! It's fun buying diapers!

My little guy still doesn't fit in Sm covers at 5 mos. When he was NB, he used a preemie, and he was 8 lbs. For the wool - too big is more forgiving, especially if the leg openings are ribbed.

$22 for 6 is a ridiculous price - that's more than I paid for my organic cotton prefolds, IIRC. Ask here for online companies that ship to CAN, I know there are several, even if you wind up buying from Amazon. I got infant size, not NB size and they were a bit bulky for a while, but they worked just fine.

Snappis do not work with flannel, so you will need pins - get Dritz if you can, some other brands won't puncture butter.

Don't expect the Goodmamas to fit right away - most OS dipes will be far too big on a NB.

And everyone says to get a cream, but in 5 mos I've never once needed one. I do use a powder on occasion - talc-free and cornstarch-free. That's the most I've ever needed.

I think the prefolds I got are organic.

If I order from the US, just to get something across the border, we have to pay a $5 processing fee plus whatever they decide tax and duty to be. If I remember, bummies are nearly $40/12 here (at least in the shops where I can find them). I have found some prefolds for about $3 a piece or some that are much thinner for $15/6 but I don't know anything about them. I had priced out the prefolds on green mountain (US) and they were $25.95 just to ship a dozen!I even looked around the used baby shops here for decent, cheap prefolds and there was nothing available (not even not decent!) and I remember last time I was in a shop and saw some they were about $1.75 used!

Sometimes it's worth buying things from the US and sometimes it isn't-usually I just add about 50% mentally to figure out my price (though the dollar is better now so it's prob about 35% with dollar, shipping. duty and tax) so unless something is half the price...

Anyways, would the bummies be a good purchase (12 sz small I think is the smallest pkg) or should I keep looking?

Okay, I think I am complete (other than a change table!), I have ordered the following:

Natural Baby Co. Pail Liner
Wahmies DSQ Pail Liner
JamTots Zippered Wet Bag
(I will need another wet bag at some point, but I'll wait to find out if I can get a girly one!)
I will buy a pail once I get the liners to check for size.

2@ sz 1 Thirsties Duo Wrap
(if I feel like I am short on covers we are a walk away from the cheapest Aristocrats I've found @ $38)

12@ infant sz Bummis Organic Cotton Prefolds (found them for $33)

8@ Dritz Diaper Pins

AMP 2-Layer Hemp Booster
2@ sz sm Thirsties Hemp Inserts

and today at Ikea I picked up a change pad that looks like a frog while I was trying to buy a change table (couldn't decide on a table).

Any thoughts on change tables? I am pretty tall and don't like to bend over (I'd get a very sore back) otherwise I'd just use the twin bed that I plan on leaving in the baby's room till they can use it.
