If you encapsulate your OWN placenta...

...how shortly after the birth do you do it? Last time I did it at like 2 months PP...probably not the greatest to wait that long but I wasn't intending on encapsulating and just decided to do it one day, so I did. This time I'm 5 days PP and just not feeling up to doing it yet, and I'll probably wait until next weekend when DH is at work again (he wouldn't be thrilled to be here during the process)...as long as I remember to take it out of the freezer (to the fridge) a day or two ahead of time!! So it'll be a little over a week and a half. How long is an "okay" time to wait as far as keeping the most "potency"?

The placenta can be kept in the freezer for consumption for about 6 months safely. Freezing may deplete some of the B vitamins though.

If you or a friend/family member can start it ASAP (within a day or two) that is probably the best time frame as far as benefits.

Oh, and to add, we did freeze my placenta and I still felt plenty of benefits. I started smoothies at 1day pp and did those for 2 weeks then took the capsules starting the 3rd week.

If you don't feel up to encapsulating right now you could do smoothies. I swear the way we made them I couldn't taste anything but strawberries. Used about 1-2 piece of placenta (1 inch cubes), boatload of frozen strawberries, some OJ (maybe 1/2 cup?) and sugar. Each smoothies was a few cups total(maybe 2 1/2?)

Whatever you're able to do it I'm sure the benefits will be better than not doing it at all.

Thanks! I'm DEFINITELY...like, by so far that it's almost comical ...the only one who will do it. I don't mind waiting until next weekend, especially since like I said I waited the whole 2 months before doing it last time. But it does make me curious how soon others who do it themselves feel up to starting the process!

I don't really have any specific reason for consuming it (like PPD or anything) so that's why I stick with encapsulating (I don't think I could do the raw stuff, to be honest). I actually want to use part of it to make a tincture this time! So I need to read up on that more before I get started, I suppose...

I'm encapsulating my placenta, with the help of my Midwife. We're going to start drying it the day or day after baby is born.
