too tight foreskin??

Hi, I have a three month old intact boy, who always had a rather short foreskin, but everything was well. Lately I noticed that the opening of his foreskin seemed a lot smaller than it was before, very smal and tight. it was a bit red, but that is amost healed not. I did watch him pee and it came out just fine and strong. However, I am a bit concered about the smal opening, but I am afraid that the docter will just pull to much or try to convince me to circumcise my boy, which is not an option.

Anybody had the same problem with their son, if so what did you do, I have heared about lotions that you can massage in to help it stretch a bit and keep it open ???

Any advice

The appearance changes over time. If he's urinating okay there is nothing to worry about. If any ped tries to tell you otherwise, find a different ped!

as long as he can pee it's fine.

Sometimes my son's penis doesn't appear to have an opening at all, but then it opens and he pees just fine, so I don't worry about it. I think the skin can stick closed when not in use, but the urine opens it up.

Samething everyone else said. My ds3 had/has a very tight skin, which seems even tighter sometimes, but he can pee just fine. Don't worry.

Ditto the others.

And if you don't trust your ped. to be knowledgable in this area, find a new ped.

Like other posters have said the appearance of the foreskin changes over time and ever from hour to hour. The tip is a sphincter like the anus when in use it opens up but when not in use it clamps down to keep out things like germs.

The redness of the tip is probably just simple diaper irritation. Put some good barrier cream on there during diaper changes to protect it and dont worry unless you see other signs of infection.

yeah

my son was/is the the same at 3.5 but i dont worry. it does not need to retract yet and it is the way it is to protect him from germs and such. dont do anything to his forskin dont try to strech it, retract or anything else. just leave it alone and it will be fine. as his grows it will change and he will be able to retract it on his own when his body is ready.

for redness try diaper free time. keeping him dry by changing him when he pees. oatmeal baths work also. if it is all the time or alot it can be caused by the diapers, wipes, body wash or laundry soap.

don't worry! and for heavens' sake don't bring it up with your ped -- because odds are they will then try to retract or otherwise assume there's a problem and may cause your son to have a problem/harm his penis where there was nothing to worry about in the first place!

as long as he can pee -- he's fine.

The end of the foreskin is a sphincter. It opens and closes as needed.

The steroid creams are for adult men who have phimosis, but want to retract during sexual relations. They are to be used in conjunction with stretching exercises that are completely inappropriate for babies.

The redness is very normal and can be treated with diaper rash cream. I highly recommend Burt's Bees. The good news is that the foreskin is protecting the meatus (pee hole) from the irritation that caused the redness. Circ'd boys sometimes get meatal stenosis, b/c they don't have foreskins to protect their meatuses (or is that meatii?).

It looks like it grew/glued together on parts that were open before. the opening only a pinhole now it was much larger before.
but I will watch the pediatritian and tell im not to touch it on his well check up

let him go naked hanging out on a blanket and watch for when he pees.....you'll probably see that the sphincter opens up wide to let the pee out and then closes up again. it's doing exactly what it is supposed to be doing, letting pee out and keeping germs/poop out when he's done peeing. the opening simply doesn't glue shut/grow together any more than his anal sphincter does. no worries, mama!

It's supposed to be tight and closed. That's what keeps gunk from diapers out of there. You should not be doing ANYTHING to try to stretch the opening, as that can lead to infections or scar tissue. If it's a little bit red you can put on a dab of diaper cream.

Do not under any circumstances let a doctor pull on or manipulate the foreskin. As long as he's peeing okay, he's fine. If the doc tells you to circ, just say no, as he can't make you. If he pushes it, find another doc.

now I am freaking out, the docter took a look at it and said it is fine and that the opening is stretchable, and there he showed me how I was supposed to do it. He did not retract the foreskin but he streched it a bit to be able to see the opening of the Urethra (no clue how to spell that). I hope that does not cause any problems. He said that his son is not cired either and that it looked ok so no worried I definetly will not strech it I just make sure it is open.

Thanks Girls for all the advice. I am from Germany by the way and never met a uncicumcised man perfore I met my husband (american) we do not circumcise and we are all fine over there, I realy appreciate that we have forums like this one to keep people educated and informed!!!

Way to go

For future reference never let anyone touch your ds's penis. It isnt worth the risk.

This can and does cause problems for some boys. Never let anyone do that again. There is no reason to manipulate the foreskin. Please read: http://www.drmomma.org/2010/01/phony...diagnosis.html

My son experienced premature separation from a doctor doing exactly what yours did. Please be very careful in the future. No manipulation by anyone but the boy himself. Wipe like a finger from base to tip if it gets anything on it.

Your doctor gave you extremely bad, ignorant, harmful information!

There is nothing wrong with your ds and you should NOT be manipulating his foreskin to keep the opening open. It's simply not necessary, and it can be harmful.

Please, mama -- you need a new pediatrician. And you need to stop worrying about your son's normal penis.

Think about it this way -- if you had a baby girl, would you be worried because you couldn't see her urethral opening? Would you even check to see if you could see it, or manipulate her genitals at all to keep things open?

Baby boys are the same way -- as long as he's peeing fine, just keep your hands off. All you need to do is wipe the foreskin like a finger, from base to tip, at diaper changes, and plain water baths to keep him clean.
