Struggling with a baby with Candida and other issues

My son has a variety of congenital birth issues, but our main issue right now is feeding. He can't nurse so I pump for him, but I'm assuming he's allergic to a variety of foods through my milk. I tried avoiding the top 8 allergens but saw no difference.

Noone seems to care that he continues to loose weight. The Ped GI (this is the 2nd one), just wants to up his calories and told us to add Human Milk Fortifier and that just made things worse which I thought it would.

They say he has reflux but has not responded to any reflux medications.

He literally screams all day in pain, throws his head back (he lacks much head control) arches his back and makes his arms straight.

When he eats it's a struggle. It's like it's really hurting him. He has loud stomach sounds as well.

On top of everything we are dealing with Candida. He smells like yeast, poops out yeast. We tried diflucan- he can't handle it- and screams even louder. Tried Nystatin, it did nothing. He's been on probiotices and now is taking pau-d'arco tincture to help with the yeast.

He's had a swallow study done to make sure he wasn't aspirating (which we assumed he was) but he's not. He had an Upper GI done as well, which just showed reflux.

Someone gave us a can of elecare to try and we started that today.

I'm really at my wits end. The Ped GI wants to do an endoscopy in April if the Human Milk Fortifier doesn't help.

My son just keeps losing weight. He will gain an ounce or two, then loose it.

It's funny because with all of his issues (brain damage etc), feeding is what is really tearing us apart.

If anyone has any ideas, I'd love them.

We have seen a chiropractor and he really doesn't know how to help.

I was thinking maybe try elecare for awhile, while I detox and remove foods etc... and see if it will help??

The GI just is interested in him gaining weight and really doesn't care that eating hurts!!! I even told him it hurts him to eat, so I really don't understand why you aren't addressing that!!

Thanks ladies.

I don't have experience to offer advice, but I would like to wish you lots of luck with this. I'm going through Candida myself, and it's not fun not eating.

Candida though is more than just the top 8 allergens. You would have to get rid of more food from your diet, which I call a starvation diet (Elimination diet).
I would recommend testing it through a natural way, with some sort of energy testing. Ask some friends in the area before deciding whom to go to. The results could be really accurate. I'm going to go to someone soon for myself and my kids. The urgent child soon, and the rest in the future when there's some extra $$ around.

Lots of s mama. I am in the Candida boat myself and recently went to a Naturopath who prescribed homeopathic Candida Albicans. I have no idea if my daughter really has yeast and if she is responding (it has been 2 weeks so maybe too soon.)

If you don't mind, where do you get the human milk fortifier? Maybe I can try that. Thanks.

The human milk fortier is just a type of formula they use in the NICU or for low birth weight babies. We had a script written for it, but never ended up using it because he didn't seem to tolerate it.

Where to start? Help 101

I would focus on improving stomach acid by offering a lick of Bubbies sauerkraut juice off of my finger before each feeding. I'd give hypoallergenic Bifidum for infants in the same manner, a lick off my finger with each feeding.

I'd have him evaluated for tongue-tie ASAP. And consider cranial sacral therapy. (I read that you are rural and the severe birth issues.)

I'd focus on improving your gut health and offering more fats to baby directly. Coconut oil, olive oil, cod liver oil and consider dairy-free homemade infant formula.

I'd see an acupuncturist and homeopath regarding the digestion issues. How did the Haberman feeder go? Have you considered a G-tube for temporary nutritional support alongside working on the oral feeding?

There are some specific nutrients which I'd focus on also: magnesium and zinc, 5-MTHF folate, vit A/D/K2, B12, B6, vit C, selenium.

I'd hold off on the antifungals and address stomach acid and opening detox pathways, otherwise the antifungals are just overwhelming his liver with toxins, as candida dies off. [Do you have/had any mercury fillings in your teeth, btw? ]

I assume you are postponing or holding off on vaccinations?

You are a goddess of strength through all of this. I am in awe of your journey and send you healing energy and support.

mama, where are you located? I'd love to see if I can find anyone that specializes in pediatrics for CST/PT around you.

Pat,

By the non-dairy formula in the link - did you mean the liver formula?

Yes. Read the FAQ about the foods and nutrients which are important to include in the infant diet as supplements to breastmilk, if needed. I believe the homemade infant formula is more balanced nutrition, and nutrient-dense (and whole food sourced) than commercial formula. Breastmilk is meant for babies, of course. And addressing mama's gut health is important to breastmilk quality and tolerance.

THanks. Well, I pump breastmilk for him. We've tried all sorts of formula, including homemade ones (we used raw goats milk), but he couldn't tolerate any of them. We even tried an amino acid based formula. But the only thing he seems to do well (if that's the way of putting it), is breastmilk. Plus, with my daughter always bringing home germs, I feel best with him on breastmilk.

He doesn't have a tongue tie.

He does seem to do okay with coconut oil- but throws up cod liver oil.

We called an acupuncturist in our area twice- but they never return our phone calls (we always get the answering machine).

I talked with a homeopathic via email- but he charges 200 an appointment and at this time, that's a little out of the budget.

He's doing better with eating. HE couldn't eat from the haberman funny. He's actually almost 11lbs now- at 6months. He went for 3 months without gaining anything.

He literally poops out yeast and smells of yeast. I tried diflucan one last time on friday and he's been screaming ever since.

He was on pau d'arco tincture- but it didn't seem to do much for him.

I do have lots of mercury fillings. My mom actually got all hers removed and replaced recently, but that's just not an option for us at this time.

Yes, we have not vaccinated him. I actually kind of keep avoiding the ped we have (we basically have him for referals, our insurance needs them), but he keeps basically yelling at me to vaccinate him (our daughter isn't vaxxed)...but I keep telling him I am NOT going too!

We live outside of Harrisburg, Pa.
