I wasn't sure whether to put this in Nutrition, Health & Healing, or here, so please move if need be!
My DS is 16 months and we've always been on the low end of normal - development-wise. He has poor muscle tone, which had him sitting, rolling over, crawling, and pulling to stand on the late side, but not to the point of concern. He's cruising along furniture and walking while pushing something or holding a hand, but not independently yet. I expect it will happen right at 18 months (before the ped worries!) For other important background info, growth has been slow (19 lbs and 29") and we've had our share of respiratory issues, leading to adenoids and tonsils being removed in Jan. We figured that surgery would be a cure-all - helping both respiratory, obstructive sleep apnea, as well as allow him to start eating and growing like a mad man! It fixed the apnea, and food intake has gone up, but growth hasn't been huge and he is still unable to eat chunky solid foods. He is interested and will try, but bites off pieces (16 teeth - the one area where he's advanced!), chokes or gags on them, sometimes throws it up, and then cries from the pain or scary feeling of choking/gagging.
We've had a speech consult to see if there was a swallowing issues, but nothing conclusive.
Does anyone else have any experiences with this? I'm feeling very discouraged! I was making my own purees April - Oct (6 mon - 1 yr), but ran out of steam... never thought we'd be eating purees for this long!!
Thanks for any suggestions or hope!!!
