watching what you watch in front of the kids

So, we haven't really put much thought into being careful what we watch in front of our son, because he's just now 14 months old. I know many people would think I should already start to be careful about what we watch in front of him, but I hadn't really thought about it until now. When's a good age to start screening what we watch in front of the kid?

Usually by age 2 I start watching what I watch in front of my daughters. I tend to like true crime and murder mystery type shows and I do not want my kids to see that stuff. So I/we usually watch anything we think is inappropriate after bedtime or during nap time.

We watch zero television with our kids. That is, what I like to watch! They watch about an hour of tv per day and it is something that they want to watch. I might watch a show during their nap while I have lunch or after I get them into bed, that's my time.

My boys are 3 and 4, but this has always been the rule. I don't want junk going into their little brains. And after age 2, they pick up everything they hear, and I personally was mortified the first time I hear the word "moron" come out of my child's mouth because he watched a kids movie that I didn't prescreen. I'm just uber-careful about what they hear and see.
